You will definitely know the answer to that question after hearing him talk about pitch counts, rest and recovery, etc. You hear coaches of select teams quoting the pitching limits of Nation's or USSSA, while ignoring the limits used by Little League/Senior League (which Andrews wrote). I think I'll go with the guidance of the man who has studied this stuff for 40 years and who has done surgeries on guys like Pujols, Clemens, Aikman, Nicklaus, Bo Jackson, Adrian Peterson, Brees, etc, etc. Any rules that don't take # of pitches into account (Nation's/USSSA) are a joke.

rounder17 Posted March 29, 2013 Report Posted March 29, 2013 I know the obvious answer would be pitch count....but with 0 runs scored, one would assume his count wasn't too high, especially since he doesn't walk many batters. I wasn't questioning the coaches decision, just curious cause I know it's a tough call for a coach to make.
Coach85 Posted March 29, 2013 Report Posted March 29, 2013 Just because he had no runs scored against him and he doesn't walk a lot doesn't mean his pitch count can not be high. Taken batters to full counts and depending on how many the batter fouls off helps to elevate a pitch count. If they want to have him around the rest of the season no matter if he has a no hitter going you still stick by the pitch count you set for the kid. It's not about the kid, it's about the team .

I'm just saying, 0 runs, 0 hits, and he usually doesn't walk a lot of people, there would have to be a lot of foul balls and errors. What would you consider a high pitch count?

I would rather have him healthy and fresh in the playoffs and the next 3 years of his career than throw a no hitter in a meaningless game.
