What happen to the thread about PNG Football?

To my way of thinking, once everyone starts responding to a particular thread, that thread doesn't belong to only its creator but to the world.  We lost some great comments (mostly from bamakid) when it was deleted.

If the only way it can mysteriously disappear is for the 'creator' to delete the thread, then who was the user that started the thread?  Just want to make sure I don't waste any of my time contributing to their threads in the future.
