AggiesAreWe Posted April 16, 2013 Report Posted April 16, 2013 I can qualify one team.Silsbee's 1982 team. This was when only the district champ went to the playoffs. Silsbee and Hebert split in district, Hebert won playoff game in Beaumont Civic Center, 60-56, to advance to playoffs. Hebert went on to win state that year. Silsbee was ranked #2 in state, Hebert #1. I remember reading in the Austin-American Statesman the week of the state tourney an article on Beaumont Hebert making their 3rd straight state tourney appearance. In that article, Hebert coach Fred Williams was quoted stating he felt his team was very fortunate to make the playoffs and actually thought the best team was at home (Silsbee). That was my senior year. :'(
AirForce84 Posted April 16, 2013 Report Posted April 16, 2013 Also, the 1979 edition of the Silsbee Tigers were 30-3, ranked #1 in state and lost out for a playoff bid to a Fred Williams coached Hebert team, Coach Williams' 1st year there after leaving Silsbee at the end of the previous season.
