The sw side of Houston is the hottest recruiting area in southeast Texas right now and Dawson and Manvel benefited greatly from opening where they did.

RHBoiler Posted June 10, 2013 Report Posted June 10, 2013
I thought manvel didn't make the playoffs until their 4th season. Dawson was quite the anomaly in their second season, having missed the playoffs the year before then making it to the state semi's. Definitely more than "Relevant".
You're right - kind off. I was off by one year on Manvel - kind off. '07 was their first varsity season, but they weren't actually part of a district that season and were not playoff-eligible. They did play all seven teams in what was 23-4A that year (Texas City, Friendswood, La Marque, Angleton, Dawson, Dickenson, Brazosport). They finished 4-3 against that group and would have made the playoffs if they were actually in the distict. '08 was their first year to actually be in a district and be playoff eligible. They ended up in a four-way tie for the fourth playoff spot. They lost by one point to the eventual region 3 champ Friendswood, at Friendswood, by missing a two-point conversion that would have won the game and put them in the playoffs. They missed out on the playoffs in '09 (3rd year) by loosing a coin-toss tie breaker to Texas City, whom Manvel had beaten that season. Manvel lost to Dawson by one point (tried for and missed a two-point conversion that would have won that game) and lost in OT to Friendswood. Dawson and Friendswood played in the R3 finals that season. So Manvel lost by a total of four point to the two R3 finalists.
Manvel got hammered their first four years of varsity play. Manvel was relevant in the toughest district in the region, some say state, from the beginning. Once they got out of district and into the playoffs: 8-2 in two 4A playoff appearances, loosing only to district-mate and state finalist La Marque in '10 and state champ Aledo in '11.But, despite the title, this thread was meant to be about Summer Creek - a team that wins district titles but is a doormat in playoffs (at least so far). Best 4A team since 2010? They wouldn't even have made the playoffs if they were in 24-4A! Now that they are basically a 5A school with about 2200 students, perhaps they can put a post-season win streak of more than one game together.

But if you do what to look at the level of competition - see above. And remember that in '11, after breezing through their cupcake district, Summer Creek was donkey-stomped by a team that was donkey-stomped by a team that lost to Manvel. What would you consider SC's best win against real competition?
