Mr. Buddy Garrity Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 Player of the week Brittney James produced two of the best games of her short career last week for the North Texas women's basketball team. The freshman guard not only scored in double figures in games at Arkansas-Little Rock and Arkansas State, she led the Mean Green in scoring both times. James' play was one of the few bright spots for UNT in a pair of losses. James scored 11 points against UALR and came back to score 13 points and grab seven rebounds against Arkansas State. "Brittney continues to get better," UNT head coach Tina Slinker said. "She is giving us more quality minutes and is playing both ends of the floor. Defensively she struggled early as most freshman do, but she is starting to help us on both ends of the floor." James not only scored on a consistent basis last week, she also shot a solid percentage from the floor, going 11-for-24 from the field. She added five steals in two games. James' big week pushed her season scoring average to 7.5 points a game, good for fourth on the team. For her solid play last week, James is the Denton Record-Chronicle UNT Player of the Week.
