That almost backfired on LCM.  Bears had a very good team that year and PNG was rebuilding. PNG came out fired up and jumped out to a nice first half lead, but LCM came back and won it in the second half.
Saddest part in that was that no one from LCM staff took control. It took PNG admins to squelch it, both times!

But the Indian prob shouldn't have done Cherokee in the middle of the field putting his stuff down ready to go. After the initial fiasco he should have been kept on the sidelines.

Not really.  LCM ISD decided the mascot had to be a girl only for the PNG game because...well...you saw.

That was my senior year. The Indian Spirit was Billy Morgan, a baseball player all the way up until his senior year. Pretty crazy guy that was known to scrap a little. Billy did get in trouble for crossing the middle of the field but he's the type of guy (well who isn't) that doesn't appreciate being tackled from behind. The Bear had to come and apologize to our school. So after all the years of rumors of the Bear "beating" up the Indians I shared the video on my facebook lol. Still waiting for the actual fight I've heard of so much from folks in Orange County.

LC-M was home, Bear crossed the center of the field first and tackled the Spirit.

I remember this. When we came back to school on Monday our principal came over the loud speaker telling us he had to go over to PNG to smoke a peace pipe with them. It was funny none of our administration cared lol

I work with a guy from LCM that was at that game. I asked him why no one from their side tried to stop it...he said they all thought it was staged. lol

LCM has since had male mascots.  When the first "attack" happened...everyone thought it was staged. But when the Indian came back across the field...it was clear there was a problem.  I have always enjoyed the Indian Spirit but he should have respected our field and not come across the second time.  Granted the Bear should not have tackled...maybe a small push down would have been ok. :) (That is a joke to the sensitive Indians) I have read where the Indian Spirit that year was a good kid...the Bear was too.  I think they got caught up in the emotions of the night. Their actions that night made this "Friday Night Fight" legendary here in SETX when PNG/LCM go head to head. Not one game goes by where this night is not brought up.

It was before the game, the coaches and players had not come out yet. Now if Death Valley Fan would have been the mascot that year, it would have really gotten interesting!  ;D

I remember it well. We(WOS Varsity) were at the game. We played Lincoln on Saturday that week. At that time, all of us PNG, LCM and WOS were undefeated and all state ranked(Well, I believe we all were). The next week we were to play LCM so we were there scouting. Long story short, we ended up beating LCM the next week going undefeated untill running into LaMarque in the third round. Man they were good. Went on to actually play LCM in the quarters the following week and then won state.
