Tebow Posted February 21, 2014 Author Report Posted February 21, 2014 Huffman pulls out a win over Columbus in extra innings 2-1. Holly Soniet pitches a complete game. Huffman couldn't get bats going against strong pitching from Columbus. Megan Mitchell scores tying run then Mattie O'neol scores winning run with good base running. Huffman is now 3-0 and will play Lagrange tonight. Quote
heartbreakers14u Posted February 21, 2014 Report Posted February 21, 2014 Huffman won in ITB in the 8th inning. Junior lefty, Holly Soniat allowed 4 hits and the Columbus pitcher allowed just two hits, in a battle of 6 foot tall pitchers. Both teams supported their crafty pitchers with stellar defense, This was a well played game by two of the elite teams in Texas 3A softball. Huffman plays #1 ranked La Grange at 8 PM tonight. Quote
3Falcons Posted February 22, 2014 Report Posted February 22, 2014 Congratz to La Grange for putting it to Huffman tonight. We were out played, even if I don't think we were totally out matched. Huffman as a team has come a long way in maturity as well as talent but they still need to learn how to bring it together as a team when the chips are down. Tonight they let a rocky start steam roll into a big loss. IMHO it takes more patience when facing a pitcher like we saw from La Grange than was shown, the girls were over aggressive at times swinging at the "pitcher's pitch" and not picking one they could really drive. Of course that is a major reason for being in this type of tournament early in the season is for the girls to learn such things. All in all a productive time so far for the Lady Falcons in the tournament. Hope they are able to learn from tonight's loss and apply it to the two games tomorrow. Quote
heartbreakers14u Posted February 22, 2014 Report Posted February 22, 2014 That was a well stated and well thought out opinion. I honestly believe that these two teams are very close in talent. I can definitely see them playing a much closer game in a few months, should they meet late in the playoffs. Congratulations to the La Grange squad for a well played and well coached game. Quote
heartbreakers14u Posted February 22, 2014 Report Posted February 22, 2014 Huffman defeats Marble Falls 4-2. Soph. Megan Unroe had a solid pitching performance and Megan Mitchell had a strong offensive game. Quote
heartbreakers14u Posted February 23, 2014 Report Posted February 23, 2014 Lefty Holly Soniat entered in relief in the second inning and pitched a two hitter, as a determined Huffman came back to beat Sealy 2-1. Huffman went 5-1 on the weekend. heartbreakers14u 1 Quote
