PhatMack19 Posted February 22, 2014 Report Posted February 22, 2014 15 yards for saying the N-word. Ejection for the 2nd offense. http://blog.chron.com/ultimatetexans/2014/02/nfl-considering-15-yard-penalty-for-on-field-use-of-n-word/ Quote
king Posted February 23, 2014 Report Posted February 23, 2014 That will be an interesting penalty call when the ref. turns his mic on to inform the crowd..... "Personal Foul, unsportsmanlikepenalty, dropped the N-bomb. 15 yd penalty, 1st down". Quote
badndn Posted February 23, 2014 Report Posted February 23, 2014 Is this gonna be any use of the word? Since half the music industry uses the word like the and and. Quote
Peppermint Patty Posted February 23, 2014 Report Posted February 23, 2014 This penalty is culturally biased. Quote
TxHoops Posted February 23, 2014 Report Posted February 23, 2014 Serious question: Will African American players be allowed to use it? Look, I am opposed to the word period. My kids have never used it (around me anyway) and know it is more taboo than using the F word in my house. However, I have noticed it is very prevalent around the kids of color that I am around. They do use the variety that ends with -a, but use that frequently when talking to each other or about others. I am curious if the NFL will make a distinction. Quote
Coach85 Posted February 23, 2014 Report Posted February 23, 2014 What about when they throw the words cracker, honkey are words that refer to whites? They going to penalize that too? Quote
Coach85 Posted February 23, 2014 Report Posted February 23, 2014 Are any other words that refer to other races. Quote
TxHoops Posted February 23, 2014 Report Posted February 23, 2014 This rule is a landmine waiting to explode. If you take what I assume to be the "spirit" of the rule, you wouldn't flag African American players for using the word. I don't think anyone should be using it, but clearly they aren't using it in a derogatory or hurtful manner. Why not just announce if you are caught on audio using it to degrade or demean another player, a hefty fine will be levied? No need to change outcomes of games or leave this open to a split second official's decision. Quote
king Posted February 23, 2014 Report Posted February 23, 2014 Soo what if a player calls Mark Samchez a Wet****? Should they get penalized?? Quote
TxHoops Posted February 23, 2014 Report Posted February 23, 2014 Soo what if a player calls Mark Samchez a Wet****? Should they get penalized?? Or any number of other racial epithets for Hispanics? Or uses a gay slur toward Michael Sam? That's why this is a questionable rule at best. Typical overreaction. If someone makes an offensive, derrogatory mark toward another player, fine their pants off. Quote
BlackShirts5 Posted February 24, 2014 Report Posted February 24, 2014 Isn't the NFL a bunch of grown men. Things get said in the heat of battle and they all know it. NFL is turning into baby league. Everyone crying about every thing. Quote
