Here's a topic most may agree on, home invasions. Enough is enough when yon you can't sit safely in your own home. There needs to be a mandatory minimum 20 years without parole. The sentence should increase significantly if elderly or children are involved.  the same could be said about car jackings

 

This isn't intended to start a home protection debate either but I'm sure it will anyway.

Yes people now a days getting 1 year sentence 2years probation if that. Home invasion should be 5-10 armed invasion 15 minimum.

Yes, the piece of crap should be in jail for as long as possible. Breaking into someone's house is a crime. Stealing is a crime. Only harsh punishment will deter it from happening again.

20 years if far to long for a 17 year old who made a very bad decision. Some people murder and only get 20.

If a 17 year old and a 35 year old ( with very similar behavior backgrounds) commit a crime together, does the older one deserve more punishment?

Not if it is his first rodeo but for a repeat offender, sure.

That's what is wrong with the judicial system anyway......too many levels of guilt for the same crime. I think 20 years is better than the alternative to breaking into my house. That could warrant the death penalty.

So you think a 17 year old with no record should get the same sentence as a guy that have been in prison three times previous?

The sentence should be set in stone. 17 year olds get 10 years, 19 year olds get 12, 20-25 year olds get 15......etc.The extenuating circumstances are for the high priced lawyers to argue. The three time loser should not have had the opportunity.

There's a difference between a home invasion and breaking and entering. Punks these days are coming through the front door and beating the crap out of the elderly.

The DOJ has nothing to do with burglaries or robberies (except maybe carjackings and bank robberies).

Pamfam- Do you know of home invasion circumstances where someone simply wanted to break into a home and not steal anything or hurt anyone?

Stealing and hurting is to different things. I'm assuming most burglars prefer you not be home.

I was thinking that breaking into someones home, regardless of intent, is a big no-no and deserves a punishment sufficient to prevent an instant replay.  But that's just me.  I know how important it is to show compassion for those folks.
