TxHoops Posted June 19, 2014 Report Posted June 19, 2014 .....and they BEAT the "BEST TEAM EVER!" (USC) The # of players on those two teams that made an nfl roster was ridiculous. I went through each at one point a few years ago. I want to say the number was in the high 60s. Mr. Buddy Garrity 1 Quote
king Posted June 19, 2014 Author Report Posted June 19, 2014 And most of em were bust in the NFL Quote

baddog Posted June 20, 2014 Report Posted June 20, 2014 And most of em were bust in the NFLAnd most of em were bust in the NFL Moot point. We are talking college football. Great college players become NFL busts all the time, especially Hypeman winners. Quote
TxHoops Posted June 20, 2014 Report Posted June 20, 2014 And most of em were bust in the NFL Both those teams were better college teams than your '01 Canes... Quote
TxHoops Posted June 20, 2014 Report Posted June 20, 2014 Longhorns from that team still in the NFL: Colt McCoy (Redshirt that year - 49ers) Jamaal Charles (Chiefs) Justin Blalock (Falcons) Jonathan Scott (Bears) Lyle Sendlein (Cardinals) Brian Orakpo (Redshirt - Redskins) Brian Robison (Vikings) Tarrell Brown (Raiders - broke his arm in 4th Q of the USC game) Aaron Ross (Ravens) Michael Griffin (Titans) Michael Huff (Free Agent - Ravens/Broncos last year) Roy Miller (Jaguars) Chris Ogbonnaya (Browns) Jermichael Finley (Redshirt - Packers) Henry Melton (Cowboys) Tony Hills (Steelers, Broncos, Colts, Bills, Raiders) Texas ranked 8th among colleges last season with 45 players in the League. Over a third of those were a part of the '05 National Championship team. Not bad for almost a decade later. Mr. Buddy Garrity 1 Quote
TxHoops Posted June 20, 2014 Report Posted June 20, 2014 Other players from '05 team that played who are NFL veterans (played at least 1 NFL season...didn't include those drafted or signed that did not make a roster): Quan Cosby (Bengals, Broncos, Colts, Jaguars) Tim Crowder (Broncos, Bucs) Brandon Foster (Colts) Cedric Griffin (Vikings, Redskins) Ahmard Hall (Titans) Derek Lokey (Chiefs) Richmond McGee (Eagles, Bears, Browns) Roddrick Muckelroy (Bengals, Redskins) Frank Okam (Texans, Seahawks, Bucs, Giants) Jordan Shipley (Bengals, Bucs, Jags) Kasey Studdard (Texans, Titans) Limas Sweed (Steelers) David Thomas (Patriots, Saints) Rodrique Wright (Dolphins, Jets) Selvin Young (Broncos) Vince Young (Titans, Eagles, Bills, Packers, Browns) A few of things, I think the number of players in the '05 Rose Bowl that played in the NFL had to be in the 70s. This took some time to compile and I didn't feel like going back thru USC's roster. But I am certain they had about 10 or more players that made the NFL. So it was probably high 70s, not 60s. Second, it was a fun to relook at this team. One thing I was reminded of was the '02 recruiting class, which is widely regarded as one of the best of all time. Finally, there are 3 starting O Linemen from that team still in the NFL almost a decade later. As with many great teams, you forget that those games are won in the trenches. The big uglies on that team were fantastic. Mr. Buddy Garrity 1 Quote

king Posted June 23, 2014 Author Report Posted June 23, 2014 My dream matchup would be 95 Nebraska vs 01 Miami. I like to see how Nebraska option with Tommy Frazier would do. Eric Crouch was dominant all season he got shut down. Miami would've won by 60 if they wanted to... Quote
BlackShirts5 Posted June 24, 2014 Report Posted June 24, 2014 While I would agree they stopped him I wouldn't say shut him down. He still ran for 114 and a TD. If we had any kind of passing game it could have been closer. Miami biggest advantage over us in my opinion was their speed. They were like a track team to our shot put and discus team lol. Quote
