Jerry Levias=Born in Bmt Tx Sept 5,1946.Played Qb @Hebert High School where he excelled & had over 100 college fb offers.Texas Coach D.Royal passed on LeVias not only for his lack of size but University of Tex would not integrate till after the 1969 Natl.Championship.Levias(broke color barrier) signed w/SMU as a WR & was a 3 time all american 1966-1968.LeVias was the MVP of the 1968 College Sr Bowl & was (Academic All American his sr year@SMU).Signed w/Hstn Oilers in 1969 & was selected to AFL All star Team in 1969 in his rookie year.LeVias was responsible for 1/2 of the Oilers tot yards in 1970 @ 5'8" 163 lbs.Jerry LeVias was Inducted to Texas Sports Hall Of Fame 1995 & National Football Hall Of Fame in 2003.Butch Thomas Educational Center?What were they thinking?LeVias worked for Conoco Oil & part owner of a successful clothing store ;)

 The name is fine with me too. I remember beating LeVias in a pick up racquetball game in Houston,  back in 90's. I knew he looked familiar but someone had to tell me who he was. Nice guy.

Should have been named after Levias to begin with. If not him, then Willie Ray Smith or move the name of West Brook's Durley Stadium to the new stadium.

Lot of opinions from people who have no stake. I hate the idea of naming it after Levias. And, Willy Ray Smith has a school named after him.

Yes, it was named after the superintendent at the time, Richard E. "Rick" Berry.

Would be at Silsbee ISD, I can guarantee you that.

 

If Tiger Stadium was to have it's named changed, the only name for that stadium would be Ray "Stud" McGallion, former coach and AD at Silsbee.

Why not name it Beaumont ISD Stadium and have a plaque or Honor Wall naming and picturing all of the people in Beaumont who have contributed to the history and legacy of BISD including Levias, Durley, Ozen, Smith, Shaver, Carroll, Chargois, et al.  People make too much of an issue about names, titles, logos, team names, etc.  It is a nice facility.  Throw up an Honor Wall and name those in Beaumont that contributed to the foundation and achievements of BISD.  Next, move on....

I don't have a problem with name, but why not let it represent the kids that play their hearts out there. Who deserves the Honor more than the players?

The man use to be a coach. Who cares if he didn't play sports. He got a school district back on its feet academically, which is far more important than sports. Or at least thats what we all try and pretend   errrr say in formal terms.
