CraigS
Also, riding your bike during the day time during summer is a little different than riding it home at midnight on a school night. that's why they are called STUDENT athletes...if you can't make the STUDENT part work in conjuction with athletics....well, maybe their priorities are a little jacked up. My point being the comparison of the young man riding his bike to summer workouts is not a fair comparison. Not during school year.
baddog
I agree with the cuts and I know times are totally different than when I was a kid. Poor kids, can't have fun like I did. What needs to happen is to get some of those moms off their butt, crank that Nissan Altima, and drive and pick up that kid of theirs. School is not an 8 hour day care, although it sure seems that is what school has become.
Bigcam2903
Taking kids home wasn't the nail in the coffin. How does providing transportation for after school activities equate to parents stepping up? Some of you people really need to get a clue. mat
It would be different if students and parents knew what was required before they committed to the activity. To tell them after the program started that the district is discontinuing the service that they said would be provide is not fair. It's like telling them midseason that because of budget cuts it will cost you $100 to finished the season.

It wasn't "fair" that after I came to the company I work for "Obamacare" jacked my premium up costing me $100's of dollars a month more than I "knew about" while negotiating my salary either....but I managed. 5GallonBucket
5GallonBucket
Life isn't fair.... Bigcam....because I ve seen where coaches have had to wait and wait and wait......and wait for parents to pick up their kids. Parents tend to forget that Coaches have families too. And yes coaches know what they are getting themselves into when they decide to go into the coaching field......but some parents just don't think of others when it comes to picking their kids up on time. THey take advantage of the coaches TIME.
5GallonBucket
CRAIG S....that is one of the best post I ve read in awhile like I said life isn't fair. if you want to see how good children have it here....go to a 3rd world country. And that's not tosay that the 50 states don't have terrible situations.....but overall and generally speaking we got it good here.
westend1
Believe it or not, you can walk or ride a bike safely in Beaumont. If you aren't hanging out and doing drugs late at night, Beaumont is actually pretty safe. I would actually like to know how many people have been assaulted in some way just going down the street before 10 pm. I bet it's not many. 5GallonBucket

CraigS
I suppose since Obamacare was unfairly imposed on you, you now support it? No, I bet not. No, I do not....point being it is what it is....and as stated by others - Life isn't fair! However, I hardly think taking away a "freebie" at whatever point...is "unfair" one shouldn't become dependent on said "freebie" use it as a tool and be appreciative while you have it....but don't whine, cry and belly ache when it no longer exist. These two situation are not even close to the same...I only used it to show that fair or not - __IT happens! ADJUST! 5GallonBucket

bullets13
The problem is not that the busses have been cut, but that the money was spent to provide them to begin with. Most districts do not provide these services. My mom was a single mother who worked nights, but I never missed an afterschool basketball practice, and I never got stuck at school without a ride home, despite the fact that I lived a good ten miles from my middle school and 7 or 8 from my high school. family and the community should be able to make it work for a kid. there's no reason, especially in Beaumont where most kids live reasonably close to their school, that a teammate or teammate's parent can't get another kid home after a game or practice. thetragichippy
Eagle11
I will preface what I say with saying I love high school sports. My fiancé is a teacher. Her math department lost teachers over the summer and they did not replace all of them. Each math class now has over the amount of students that are designed to be in the classroom. She has to have 3 lesson plans per class (regular kids, ESL kids and slower kids). The part that infuriates the teachers, and myself, the school added another coach to the staff that carries a couple of classes but not math. Athletics goes unaffected but again the teachers are left to deal with all the issues. I will go back to my original statement......I love high school athletics. BUT, they need to have their place. The are extras outside of actual schoolwork. The school should be funded first. Teachers should have everything they need for their class and class sizes should be manageable. THEN, sports are funded out of the extra's. If we want to get rid of wasted dollars, look no further than the overstuffed front offices (principals on top of principals along with a coordinator for every subject) and the 12 to 16 coaches on the sidelines of a football game. Whether my son/daughter plays sports or not, they are there for an education first. CraigS

It's all about what is important...... There was a guy pitching a fit in Lumberton on FB because the bus won't drive in front of his house to pick up his kid.....He does not feel his kid needs to walk a block to get to the bus stop......WOW
Mr. Buddy Garrity
@12NewsSETX: BISD teachers aide fired amid accusations of inappropriate relationship with a student http://bit.ly/1r7F34A http://twitter.com/12NewsSETX/status/513106808278224896/photo/1 Welp this person got the axe. tvc184
I wonder what "inappropriate" or "relationship" is? The TX law in such cases is very clear and there has to be a sexual act. The Penal Code is very specific and detailed on what is the crime and having a "relationship" or being "inappropriate" is meaningless. Without a sexual act, it might be and likely is a school rules violation but not a Penal Code crime. If someone gave false information about the accusation (as defense attorneys are almost obliged to claim) then that person(s) needs to be held accountable. It is nonsense that someone claim such a serious charge and get away with it both criminally and civilly if it isn't true. On the other hand, if the accusations are correct............. thetragichippy

5GallonBucket
Just another money grab using her sex orientation as a means to gain leverage. I don't know the whole story but if she punched and kicked any official then well they have the means/right to subdue her. I like how 12 news uses the word BULLY when nothing in the news article gives any evidence to bullying. Subduing a student for attacking a teacher is not bullying. 12 news get it straight and report honest info or you will lose credibility. stop trying to gain watchers/listeners by inaccurate headlines.
