@ESPNTexas: Texas QB David Ash will not play against BYU, Charlie Strong announces. Took a hit vs. North Texas.

@mikefinger: Strong says Ash took a hit in the first quarter. Will be evaluated by medical staff. No timetable. Swoopes and Heard will play.

@max_olson: Strong: Ash left stadium Saturday OK, called late Saturday night to report injury.

Well now ain't that just freakin great! Injuries are a huge part of football. It's called depth, so someone needs to step up.

Ash never should have been on the field this year.  The success of Texas's season has been based upon Ash being healthy, which was a huge gamble.  Now to hand it over to an unproven QB at this point could spell trouble for the Horns.  On the optimistic side, BYU will now have to prepare for Swoops, so their defensive game plan will have to change.  That 3.5 point spread is about to go the other way.

Am I wrong?

"Tyrone Swoopes, one of the top quarterback recruits in the country, has reportedly committed to the Texas Longhorns, according to Geoff Ketchum. Swoopes stars for Whiteright (Tx.) High School and also holds offers from Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Stanford.

Swoopes stands 6'5" and weighs 220 pounds. He is rated four stars or better by most of the major services. Some have even called Swoopes the top player in the state."

Although we're still working to confirm with the young man, we've learned the state's No.1 prospect Tyrone Swoopes has committed to Texas.

Swoopes started as a four star and regressed as he did not prgress on the field.

He was never a 5 star recruit.

But do not put all of you cherries in the basket yet, because we have Holtz, who you have recently pointed out was playing better than Swoopes and Heard.HOOKEM

Someday, after spending some time on the mountain, you will figure it out.

@clarencehilljr: Texas' problems at QB land firmly at the feet of Mack Brown. Horrible recruiting and handling of QB position has handcuffed @Strong_TexasFB

On the bright side at least you have a 5 Star QB to take over for Ash. Who said Mack left the cupboard bare?

Swoopes actually was rated as a 5 star by ESPN who are the hardest recruiting service to get the 5th star from. He was reclassified as an "athlete" after the Opening in Oregon where he couldn't hit the side of a barn. He was the #1 dual-threat qb in the state before that camp, much like Heard is now. Heard's performance was also sub-par at the Opening though.

He was not rated a 5* quarterback.

He may have been a 3* when he signed.
