Guest Wildcat 08 Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 We've talked about the best Gyms in the area, what are some of the worst?
AshlyHasBeen Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 1. West Brook- A 5A school shouldn't have to play in a place like that, horrible seating and don't get me started on the surface or the lighting.2. Memorial- The floor isn't bad but for fans you have to sit a mile away. You just don't get the feeling like your really into the game.3. Central- Once again nice floor but there's like 15 feet between the endzone and stands. The gym just seems really deep, I wonder if it messes with the shooters. These are just three off the top of my head, not exactly the worst (besides West Brook). Other gyms that bother me are PN-G (lighting and very bland, too small compared to old gym), Hardin-Jefferson (day games only, when the sun is shining through the windows on one side). Finally not exactly bad but just weird-Kelly and Cathedral with the stands only on one side.
Guest bleed orange Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 HJ has poor lighting. WOS used to have poor lighting but I think they brighten up the place or atleast it seemed that way during vollyball.
20FAN07 Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 Its true they did replace all the lights, thanks to rita...
big_robes49 Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 hj's gym is small and the ceiling is low
sunshine Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 HJ's place does have sun coming in when it's a day game and ceiling is low
Guest bleed orange Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 Its agreed HJ needs a new gym. Come on the good people of HJ pass a bond issue to build a new gym. The kids deserve it, look at the history. The banners on the wall prove it. Actually I like the gym in china, it reminds me of hoosiers.
Bobkat Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 Hey Bleed Orange, weren't you on that Hoosier's team that they made the movie about???
Guest ECBucFan Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 Hardin's gym is nice, but has stands on only one side. Should have been designed to use some of the foyer room for more gym space.
Guest bleed orange Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 Yes bobkat, I was the guy who shot the freethrows underhanded.
Guest KirbyKat Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 The Dome gym at Nederland has to be on the list. And it should'nt. With a new floor it could be one of the best.
AshlyHasBeen Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 You're right about the Dogdome. It's a very unique atmosphere with plenty of seating, with a new wood floor it would be great. Their competition gym is too small and bland IMO.
scoobydoo Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 Not necessarily the worst gyms, but the SEATING at LCM and WO-S is the worst. The stands have narrow planks, no steps to go down, and are steep. I have wondered how many people have taken a header trying to get down from the upper stands.
Guest allsportsfan Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 On the small school side, Hull Daisetta is terrible. Lack of seating and you are up above everything.
Lazeek Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 HJISD is working on a new bond proposal that would include a new gym!!!!
Go-rilla Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 HJ's gym is cool to play in.Worst Area Gyms. No particular order.HullAnahuacMAc donald gym (lamar) volleyball lines make it tough to see out of bounds.Cleveland's old gymHamShire-no parking.
shermdog Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 I like the old gyms. They have character. As far as for everyone being above HD's court, it allows for better vision and if the bleachers were on the floor, you would lose capacity. I have been to alot of the gyms mentioned. Just because they are new and fancy, does not mean they have the history that the old gyms do. You want to talk about being above the floor, look at Liberty, they did not even pull out the bottom bleachers. That was playing in a pit. My $.02.
BIGDADDYDAVEHJ Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 well after my visit to WOS tuesday im gunna have to say that they need a new gym bad...there is absolutly not enuff seating or walking space on the floor to got by to go to the concesion stand or bathroom.
AshlyHasBeen Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 I agree about West Orange, and I didn't exactly like how the Hawk Hecklers were moved. But as far as old gyms you can't beat Orangefield, I still love that gym.

Guest bleed orange Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 I too like the old gym. But after being in the new one, the lights in the old gym were not as bright as I thought. Thats great that HJ is putting together a bond issue to upgrade their facilities. I hope it passes. It took us three times before it finally passed and we sure are glad it did.
mactiger Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 I love our new gym, but I miss our old gym too. Last year, after Rita destroyed our new gym, we played in the old gym at the middle school. It felt like old times. The acoustics in the old gym are better too.
PoppaBearstarr Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 I still like your new gym better mactiger, it is something to be proud of as well as the high school I can't remember seeing a better looking complex, only down fall is parking.
