At the other end of the spectrum, Beaumont, Texas, ranks as the least educated city in America, with one of the lowest percentages of bachelor’s degree holders as well as graduate or professional degree holders, and one of the lowest numbers of doctors per capita.

Beaumont ranks dead last in the USA or as the poll states, they are number one in the least educated. So Beaumont can rightfully say.....

One of the criteria is % of bachelor degrees. I would assume we have a lot higher % of technical degrees in this area with all of the refineries. Most plants don't require a degree or only a 2 year associates so that would skew the numbers some.

That is true.  If you look at the areas with a high amount of industrial jobs, there are a lower amount of 4 year degrees.  Doesn't mean they don't make pretty good money though.

Also by FORBES: Whereas being educated is very important. I'm not convinced basing how "educated" a region is by way of  bachelor degrees is the best way, or maybe it is, just a terrible misleading headline. Anyway - I think this statistic may serve better for our area. This is obviously Houston, however, we are almost identical to this model.
