TxHoops Posted October 4, 2014 Report Posted October 4, 2014 Congrats Newton. Big HUGE win! And just when everyone had written the Eagles off. Those boys weren't intimidated and fought all night. Smh at you WOS doomsayers. These are kids, literally kids, and they will make mistakes some nights, be overconfident some nights, and let a quality program hit them in the mouth some nights (as our friend Gata would say). Some of you WOS fans are just spoiled rotten. Please send your coaching staff and players to a school that would appreciate them! GATA! and Gasilla 2 Quote

skipper Posted October 4, 2014 Report Posted October 4, 2014 tonight was ugly i will take up for the dallas kid he only does what the play calls for . who ever the qb coach is he is not doing a very good job showing dallas what other things he can do when his wr is coverd like a blanket ck off fast find a open wr tonight he had a ton of them open down field. the mustangs ol stunk up the place all night. as for newton had two playes that worked and the mustangs had no clue had to stop them more to come later on this game i am PO right now need a couple beers on a closeing note what we saw tonight mustangs will finish 3rd in the dist behind HJ and orangefield Quote
ladybug33 Posted October 4, 2014 Report Posted October 4, 2014 @ Griff I know all about Dillon. I have a closer view of the team and have also followed WO-S for multiple decades just like yourself. They should make some adjustments on offense, but not wholesale changes. We need to get back to running the ball and not ask Jack Dallas to pass so much. He is a good kid and good QB. In time, he will be really good. We've had a bigger problem this year with dropped passes than QB play. That continued tonight. It also would've helped to have our best player out there, but he was injured in the first quarter. I think our guys lacked focus tonight. Playing without DT really hurt, too. After such an emotional letdown falling short to a goliath opponent, then facing a much smaller team that has lost three games already set us up for this poor showing. That is no excuse for the loss, but I give credit to Newton doing what they needed to win. WO-S will rise from this. I believe they do have the players AND coaches to make that happen. Totally agree that Zack is a great kid, and he will be a good QB in the future. He is just learning. My point is that coaches should put their players in positions that will allow them to feel that they can be successful.I could be wrong but I don't believe at this time that he is ready to take on such a huge responsibility. Last year I really like the way he made a field goal in one of the games that we had a big victory. We are missing a field goal kicker for sure. Next, we need a stronger full back runner, The King kid has good size and I would try him at full back. I know that some of the guys are going to big time schools next year, and it would be sad to see them leave their school on a negative light. I am a Mustang fan no doubt, win or lose I will support the kids on that football team. The Stangs will bounce back, I hope it will be sooner than later. Quote

Trufan Posted October 4, 2014 Report Posted October 4, 2014 WOS does need to make changes on offense. Their offense is not designed to make plays. From what I have seen over the years wos's offense relies on the players to make a super human effort for them to work. That will work against the lesser teams but when a team matches WOS 's talent and speed it won't work. I know no one wants to hear this but the difference between us scoring 7 offensive points agame and the 40 a game we scored last year is Dillion making the plays work. If it wasn't for DT playing balls out we wouldn't even get the 7. At this point in time jack can't make those plays. Thompson has to stop expecting him to. WOS plays 10 straight games with a break in week 11. If they keep going at the pace they are going they will limp into the playoffs and that's a scary thought. Quote

Back2swag Posted October 4, 2014 Report Posted October 4, 2014 Newton played awesome , very proud . After all the drama in Newton the boys pulled together and played like champions . WT and the rest of the coaches did a heck of a job preparing for this one . Quote
stangx2 Posted October 4, 2014 Report Posted October 4, 2014 The Stangs will be fine. CONGRATS TO THE EAGLES! Great game Newton. My personal opinion WOS has to be both physically and mentally tired with the non-district schedule they had played. I think an emotional loss last week to a team that physically kinda beat us down. One reason we play well coached team like Newton is for them to expose our weaknesses so we can correct them come district. Mandel and DT going out early did not help. Make no mistake DT is the leader of this team, huge letdown. Jack is a good QB, but he is still a sophomore, you can't expect him to put the game on his shoulders. You have to have a run game to take the pressure off of him and make it easier for him to manage the game. For the Of and HJ fans, no we will not finish 3rd. GATA! 1 Quote
21 hondo Posted October 4, 2014 Report Posted October 4, 2014 Newton enrollmen 296 Wos enrollment 594 per the UIL surely Newton didnt stand a chance to win???? Can we please stop whining about which school has the most students, or players!!!!! I guarantee to u that Newton did not come into this game with an inferiority complex abot who had the most students, or players. THEY EXPECTED TO WIN!!!!! The same goes for making excuses for the QB because he's a sophomore, he is not average because he's in the 10th grade, he's average because thats what he is!!!!!! Wos has had outstanding sophomore Qb`s & that didnt prevent them from performing at a high level : Rusty Doyle started as a sophomore, over a senior. He led wos to their first district championship as a senior, in a much tougher district. Eric Anderson started as a freshman , had an outstanding career at wos, and lest not forget that Dillion was a sophomore last year & everybody knows what he did!!!!! And please before some people put Thompson on Mount Rushmore for all of his great decision making & judgement of talent, lets not forget that he is the same person who insisted that Adrian Peterson play defense & was promptly ran out of town, and he is certainly partly ,if not totally the reason why Dillon is no longer at wos. Not to mention last week having 4 downs to make a total of 3 yards & didnt gain an inch. 4th & 1 & 2nd & 2 for a first down. Everybody knows the plays that were called. Before the attacks come, Im just stating facts, nothing personal, if it were me, or my own son id say the same thing. Come at me with some facts & objectivity or dont come at all. By the way i agree with Ladybug 100% people in Orange are resistant to change of ANY kind!!!!!!! One4All 1 Quote

By the way i agree with Ladybug 100% people in Orange are resistant to change of ANY kind!!!!!!! It depends on the situation, remember Jimmy Salter was a sophomore thrown into an unbelievable situation. However, the coaches protected him all they could by trying to with a running game until he got his feet wet. The other QB's you mentioned if I am not mistaken ran a different offense, a more run orientated offense than we currently have. Dillon did an outstanding job and probably is the exception although he did have Chris James. As far as calling Jack average I think your premature on that one. Remember, he was supposed to be QBing the JV team this year. He was third string on the chart. Let him grow a little, we have to go back to running the ball even if it means changing offenses (which we obviously can't in midseason). It would also help if we could throw over the middle some.
