Last February my wife was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer. Needless to say, it was quite a shock to our family.Lucky for us we live 45 minutes from one of the best cancer hospitals in the world with MD Anderson. In March she underwent a double mastectomy and started chemotherapy treatments every 3 weeks. The first 4 rounds of chemo were terrible (She would be out of commission for about 4 days.)

We have spent the last 11 weeks traveling to MD Anderson every Saturday morning (and when our daughter had a band contest we would go on Sunday) for the final chemo rounds. The side effects are not as bad, but they are still life altering. This Sunday, she will have her final round of chemo (she has 6 more months of going every 3 weeks for an infusion that is not as toxic as the chemotherapy)! Hopefully she will begin to grow her hair back soon and she will feel like herself again.

She will have reconstructive surgery in December, but I feel like the worst is behind her.

With this being Breast Cancer Awareness month, I wanted to share our story. Early detection is the key to fighting and cancer.

We may banter back and forth on this forum, but you guys do not know how much I really needed to "talk" to you during this time. I have not met any of you in person, but I wanted to thank you for providing me with an outlet.

Thank you!

Thank You GCMPats2,

This has brought me perspective again - I seem to lose it on a regular basis.  I seem to many times get caught up in supporting or defending the teams that I like and even sometimes put the teams down that I do not like as much.

But as this reminds me - Football is just a game and I need to remember that always as there are many many more important things then who wins or loses on a Friday or Saturday.

God Bless.

One year ago today (3-31-2014) my wife started her battle with breast cancer. It has been a tough year, but as of now she is doing awesome.

She will conclude her chemo treatments in August. It will be a great day to witness her ring that bell at MD Anderson.

It is far from over. She still has some surgeries left to repair some cosmetic aspects. Those things seem trivial compared to what could have happened.

Thanks for the prayers. Please keep them coming.

If you have a chance, next Friday is the Relay for Life event here in Baytown. Stop by and help support a great cause.

Nice to hear good news. I have had my own bouts with cancer. Surgery has kept me going so far. I pray for a cure for this indiscriminate disease.

Been to M.D. Anderson for my tests and surgeries. It was very humbling to see the kids. I told several to go ahead of me in line because all I had was melanoma.

Thanks for sharing your story.

"Life has many ways of Testing a person's will, either by having nothing happen at all or by having everything happen all at once"

"Do Not Pray for an easy Life, Pray for the Strength to endure a difficult one"

As always all our differences and petty arguments are put to the side and seem petty when tragedy - or in this case the promise of a better future - raises its head.

Always - Prayers and Best Wishes.

Side Note: The place I work at has an active Relay for Life group that I have participated with since I lost my mother and sister to cancer - will add another name to the list that I support every year.
