Eazy Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 Just think, next year they will be in the playoffs for the 2nd straight year on a 65 game losing streak. Give their coach a raise. walldrill 1 Quote
HJ2012 Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 Who is it they're trying to play to avoid going winless into the playoffs? Quote
td Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 I may be wrong but it seems everybody got silver last year,or maybe it was just for the carthage game, can't rememberYes last year everyone got a silver. He didn't bring the whole jv team up. Quote

ST413 Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 A. It's all about money. More playoff games = more money. B. As much as I hate to say it...if any 4th seed in the state wins a playoff game at all...then it's justified. You can't say "you only make the playoffs if you have a winning record".. You either have good teams not get in, or bad teams get in. Face it..some districts are just a lot better than others. I disagree with b. You should have to earn your spot in the playoffs in your district. If you can't come in the top two spots out of even a 8 or possibly 9 team district, Which I am not sure even exists anymore, Then you shouldn't make the playoffs. I am sure there are several 4th place teams in the state that can beat some of the district winners but that's what makes district important. Heck I know this to be a fact in basketball look back to 3 or 4 years ago when Silsbee and HJ were the best two teams in the region for a few years. We also had a WOS and Orangefield that had playoff quality teams at least part of that time. If it was only two teams then neither of those two would have made the playoffs, that would have just made their district play that much more meaningful. It seems to me that it takes a lot of meaning away from the regular season, like the nba. At least they get a little meaning in seeding and home court. Quote
griff Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 Let's say the average ticket is $6 and the average attendance is 5,000. UIL's 15% of the gate of those 598 games comes to $2,990,000. I actually think I may have low balled on average price and attendance. UIL will definitely make 3 mil+ this post season. I'm sure the UIL is rooting for PNG to make the playoffs every year. The larger playoff crowds boost their earnings. Quote

griff Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 With the pearls?? You know he doesn't give out the Silver unless you have earned it. Lol. I wonder how many playoff opponents over the years have seen us and thought we were dirt poor. I can hear them "why can't they afford all the same color helmets?" Lol! I've thought that same thing, kicker. Remember it was Coach Hooks who brought the entire football program to all playoffs games. Coach Thompson instead promotes a few (last year it was six) players from JV and they receive their silver helmets. He didn't like the idea of carrying all those extra players who would not play anyway. That also saves a little money on transportation and the meal ticket without bringing so many boys. Quote
DesertStorm Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 when i added it up i used $5, 5000 people and 600 games. that put them making 2,250,000 million. so on a bad year they are making 2+ million for doing nothing. i would like to know what the money is used for. Don't think you are close on the 5000 attendance. 3A and down will never get close to that number, except at a state final or semi-finals game maybe. Coached a very good now 2A Div 1 and we never came close to 5000 even in the state semi-finals. I'm not a numbers person, but not sure that it would even average 5000. Quote
BLUEDOVE3 Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 Only in the State of Texas.. This is the product of taking 4 teams from each district... Making the playoff isnt what it used to be...Thank you! Been saying the same thing for several years. It definitely allows the "little Johnnie's" to participate in the playoff system. Its just too bad this particular school from Houston has to define the flaws of the playoff sysyem with their history. Quote
Back2swag Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 Big games would attaract bigger crowds I would think , js Quote

Everyone needs to write the UIL Legislative Council and the TEA which runs the State Executive Community and complain. Of course the UIL is headquartered at UT, so there you go. :) UNIVERSITY INTERSCHOLASTIC LEAGUE1701 Manor Road, Austin, TX 78722 Tel: (512) 471-5883 | Fax: (512) 471-5908 #1 NDNFAN 1 Quote
TxHoops Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 AAW, would you concede that WOS' undefeated and extremely strong JV team would likely beat Scarborough? Quote

bullets13 Posted November 5, 2014 Report Posted November 5, 2014 AAW, would you concede that WOS' undefeated and extremely strong JV team would likely beat Scarborough?I saw them play this year, and honestly feel like their coach could probably schedule them a varsity schedule they could go 10-0 against if he filled it with Houston teams and some of the weaker 3A-2A teams in our area. skipper Posted November 5, 2014 Report Posted November 5, 2014 the mustangs jv team is some than to see tons of speed outstanding wrs with good hands. i do belive the mustangs will be just as good for years to come ,the 9th grade is good very well coached. Quote
jv_coach Posted November 5, 2014 Report Posted November 5, 2014 Half the teams in the state make the play-offs. It is a travesty. Quote
Englebert Posted November 5, 2014 Report Posted November 5, 2014 In 4A DII, 64 teams make the playoffs out of a field of 87 teams...which is 74%. You don't have to be in the top 25% to make the playoffs, you have to be in the bottom 25% to not make the playoffs. This is shameful on the UIL's part. BLUEDOVE3 1 Quote
pe2009 Posted November 5, 2014 Report Posted November 5, 2014 No fault of their own....Jones folded right before the school year leaving a 4 team district. Nothing can be done unti realignment. A lot of these HISD schools should be closed or consolidated. Many of them have 2A-3A enrollment numbers. No reason why they couldnt combine Waltrip and Scarborough. Also, it's a stones throw from Northbrook and Aldine Eisenhower. Quote

wo-s#1 Posted November 6, 2014 Report Posted November 6, 2014 I don't like playing teams like this because everyone knows they have nothing to lose,a lot of teams tend to play dirty in situations like this griff 1 Quote
