bullets13
I've shot one spike, but I've only sat a stand 3 times.
olddadt49
Maybe now that football is over I may get to go a little more often. That should help my chances some anyway. I can't let my grandson skunk me!

ST413
A good amount to to have only seen 5 deer and all of them farther than I really want to shoot!!
tvc184
I have seen tons of deer, just not the ones that I wanted to (or could) shoot. I hunted on a ranch and was a doe/spike hunt with the option to take a management buck. I tried for several days for a buck and had one come in within about 5 feet of my shooting lane but some javelinas kept him alive. When it got late one evening I took a doe just to get some meat. On a couple of hunts I would have taken a late doe but there was always an issue such as javies or big bucks running them out of my bow range. ST413
All my hunts have been outside of Woodville, and it has been pretty slow so far. I will probably spend as much time as I can the next week or so to try to fill the freezer before doe season is over.

tvc184
What's a management buck running out there? Cost? For me the five day bow hunt with three doe/spike plus a 125"-135" buck is $1,500. With no buck being hit it is $350. Doe/spike hunts are semi-guided with transportation to and from the blind, corning the area and tracking dogs if needed.
ST413
That's pretty good it's a lot more expensive than that with your own place just buying corn.

bullets13
I have a gnarly 6-point showing up at my house that I actually kind of like. A perfect rack on one side, the other side just a small browtine and a main beam that goes out and then hooks down below his ear. I think it would make a sweet European mount. bullets13
My dad and I are headed to Fairfield State Park tomorrow for a doe/spike/pig draw hunt. Hoping to come back with a couple of deer for the freezer. We're also going Friday through Sunday for a draw hunt at Balcones Wildlife Reserve. That's a doe/spike/turkey/pig hunt, and if I shoot A doe or pig then I can take a buck. So hopefully I'll get something
mat
You've done well with the draws.
westend1
I killed a small axis buck this weekend. My son shot a spike. The most interesting thing I saw was a very big buck running around with yellow tags in each ear. I guess he is an escapee from some neighboring ranch. probably 3 years old scoring 150ish
ST413
Is he fair game after escaping or do the tags in his ears make it "game theft" or something like that.
bullets13
He should be fair game
bullets13
He'll be breeding local does either way. Not a bad thing if nobody gets a shot on him.
