fredh Posted January 27, 2007 Report Posted January 27, 2007 Hearne 74 New Waverly 73Hearne goes to 11-6 6-2 at Franklin TuesdayNew Waverly18-7 7-2 host Hempstead TuesdayHearne hit the go ahead basket with about 4 seconds left. Hearne was down by four with less than a minute to go. Anthony Gonzales hit a three to bring the Eagles to within one. The Eagles then got a steal by senior guard Edwards who missed a layup. He somehow got his own rebound and missed another short range jumper in the lane. New Waverly got the rebound and Hearne immediately fouled the New Waverly player. The player from New Waverly missed the one and one and Hearne got the ball after the rebound was tipped out of bounds by a New Waverly player. Hearne brought it up to half court and called a timeout with 13 seconds left. After the timeout Edwards went down the lane to hit a contested layup at the rim. It went in and New waverly called a TO. After the timeout New waverly came up the floor and had a good look at a 3 that did not go in.Tonight I believe the districts two best teams were on the floor. I look for New Waverly Hearne part 3. Just a early guess but most likely in Madisonville or Bryan College Station. Hearne would most likely have to play that Friday to make up a game with Lexington and then Sat in a tiebreaker game. New Waverly is young and will be a team to reckon with for several years. They have two freshmen, two soph, and a junior starting. I enjoyed the game and loved the atmosphere. This was a playoff basketball last night. Good luck to both teams and Go Eagles!!!!!
