A&M won again today and is now 12-0 on the season. They have looked good at the plate and on the mound so far, but haven't played much competition. This weekend at the Houston College Classic should be a good test. I'll be there Saturday night to watch them play U of H and hopefully see BC's Jake LaMoine pitch against the Ags.

Should be a good weekend of baseball

Good luck to whoever is playing UH. Awesome to see an Ivy League school take 2 of 4 from the best team in Texas this weekend. Nice work, Todd.

A&M is now 18-0 headed into conference play against Auburn this week. On a bad note the Ags Friday night starter is having Tommy John and is done for the year. That means A&M will be without their preseason #1 and #2 starters for the rest of the season. Hopefully some other guys can step up.

That seems to be happening more and more. These guys need the summer off. Many of them go straight into summer ball without any rest. Then they pick back up with Fall practice. It's a double edged sword. Gotta be seen.

It's starting way too early now. There is no reason that a 12 yr old kid should be throwing 200 innings a year and playing baseball year round. Those select trophies are fun, but is it really worth it when your arm is dead before you are in HS?

Practice your young kids pitching at home and keep them off the mound as much as possible at least until their freshman year.

At least young kids are at the mercies of their parents. If you're in college, take a summer off (barring injury) and see what happens. You'll catch 5 kinds of hell.

Now, some schools will sit their starting pitchers during the summer. If they are MLB level, they are going to pitch somewhere after their soph. season. They do not really fret over Jr's.

Ags beat Auburn 6-2 to move to 19-0. Greyson Long gave up 1 run on 3 hits in 6 to move to 4-0 on the season.

Texas beat WV 4-3 in 10 innings. Kirby Bellow got his first win of the season by throwing a perfect 10th. Kirby has worked his way into being UT's top guy out of the pen.

It's been a rough road for, Kirby. Glad he is having such a great start to his season.

And way too many kids throwing junk at early ages. I wouldn't let my kid throw a curve ball until high school at the earliest.

I wish more of the select coaches had this mind set. If they are going to teach anything other than a fastball it needs to be a change-up. No need to put the strain of breaking balls on such young arms. A guy I played HS ball with was one of those kids throwing CBs at 11...signed as an UDFA after 4 years at Sam but ended up failing the physical due to his elbow being in such bad shape...and he played middle infield in college...hadn't pitched since HS.

Ags with the best record and still #3. Pollsters......ruin everything.

It will work itself out. The SEC is pretty tough but A&M does get lucky to avoid series with Vandy and Florida this year. It's pretty impressive what A&M has done so far this season without their top 2 starters. Hopefully they can keep it up.

To this point, Ags have not played a tough schedule. Baseball is terrible about rewarding good teams for losing to other good teams. IMO, if you beat everyone on the schedule, you have done your part.

Like PM said, it will all come out in the wash. Ags will host a Regional and have a shot at Omaha.

    • Well Mustang fans it's time for my annual end of season rant. I've had so much company up here on the soapbox that I may have to start charging rent. After 3 years I don't think anything needs to be said. We all know what's wrong. We all know why. So what's the decision at the next board meeting? IMO, there's been enough imaginary success for the board to rubber stamp the Superintendent's vision for our future student athletes. #make every second count Due to soft scheduling and a weaker than normal district. The luck of knocking off 2 ranked opponents early when they were not healthy or still trying to figure it out. Also led to a premature ranking and a hollow DCTF weekly award. The 2 late season losses vs ranked teams proves what we know has been the biggest problem.  Football 19-15 .559 Baseball 9-35 .205 Basketball 19-35 .352 GBB 11-29 .275 Softball 1-22 .043 Volleyball 0-38 .000 Overall 59-174 .253   For anyone living in the district, I ask that you contact you're elected board members publicly and privately. Don't let them think this is exceptable. Be the solution to the equation. Not the divisor. This starts at the top and falls heavily upon those walking the halls. They deserve better.
    • I don't think it's 6-5 maybe 4-3
    • Sounds like a good idea, and something’s been needed for a long time. I know—where my kids & grandkids live now (DFW area)—schools are like revolving doors for athletic purposes. I don’t think the DPISD & LPISD option enrollment are anywhere like that. I assume it’s pretty above board since it was an arrangement apparently agreed to also by the state. I do know some kids that went to LPISD elementary schools in DP chose to go to DPHS because of the district rating. (Of course, at the time, DPISD and DP in general wasn’t very racially mixed like La Porte.) LPISD has a high number of kids on assistance programs compared to DP. Say what you will, it does make it more difficult for educational purposes and scores can reflect as much. LPISD is still rated high even with that challenge. Some of the kids that chose DPHS were very solid athletes that I’m sure LP would love to have had attend LPHS. Of course, part of the big rivalry between DP & LP has always been because DP ‘looked down’ on LP even though we worked side-by-side. Now that Shell DP refinery has been sold to PEMEX, DP is changing. Some aren’t happy about it. Some of us in LP are kinda tickled about it after the history.
