Who That Posted March 19, 2015 Report Posted March 19, 2015 That's great they all three can ball.. lol It's going to be fun watching them next year. Great group of young men. :) Quote
thegoat Posted March 19, 2015 Report Posted March 19, 2015 Yes you are absolutely correct seen them all 3 of them play the weekend. They play great together and they don't seem to get rattled and you can tell they play a lot of ball together. Quote
TxHoops Posted March 22, 2015 Report Posted March 22, 2015 Defenders 15u circuit team is 3-0 so far playing up in 16u. Just beat a team by 33 that lost earlier this weekend to Dwight Howard 16u on a buzzer beater. Jaylon Williams from Cleveland is a straight up beast. Quote
Who That Posted March 22, 2015 Report Posted March 22, 2015 Who locally is on that team? How did Bruce Grubbs and Hare do today ? Quote
ST413 Posted March 22, 2015 Report Posted March 22, 2015 They played good the team was out of sinc today. We saw two games. They lost their first two but won the first bracket game. I can see why everyone has strong opinions of Aau. Brady and others were trying to get them to play together more instead of more as individuals. And to play better on defense. They definitely don't play at the same pace or intensity as a high school game. Of course I don't know how often they all get to practice together. They were also missing a couple players one of I will name since Brady has Grayland Armold. The plus size of Aau is definitely exposure and time on the court if they make the effort to make that time count. You will definitely get stronger and better inside because very few fouls are called!!?, Quote
ST413 Posted March 22, 2015 Report Posted March 22, 2015 Maybe I shoul clarify not at the pace or intensity of a Silsbee High School game, but there were moments. Quote
TxHoops Posted March 22, 2015 Report Posted March 22, 2015 Who locally is on that team? Jaylon Williams - Cleveland Jomard Valsin - Kelly Jakobe Dill - Kelly Trey Keller - Memorial LiJon Smith - West Brook Alex Catt - Orangefield Other players are: Hunter Quick - 6'8 - Brazosport; Jordan Mays - 6'4" - Houston; Damay Jones - 6'2" - Pasadena Dobie; and Tayjon Martin - 5'9" Cy Fair Quote
ST413 Posted March 22, 2015 Report Posted March 22, 2015 For a minute there I was really wondering how a abrazo sport player was on this team until I realized I was getting Brazosport mixed up with Bridgeport.....I was also wondering where his 3 housemates were!!!! TxHoops and Team Game 2 Quote
TxHoops Posted March 22, 2015 Report Posted March 22, 2015 I caught the Defenders 17u Circuit team's games against Franchize last night and Nike Pro Skills EYBL team this afternoon. Sick amount of talent in those games. And the size you saw from the 5A and 6A teams from Dallas at state. Quote
ST413 Posted March 22, 2015 Report Posted March 22, 2015 Really how often do these teams get to practice together or is it really who can make it there practices and the tourneys are where they all get together. Quote
ST413 Posted March 22, 2015 Report Posted March 22, 2015 I did see a couple teams with some size but only watched those games may catch a few more tomorrow. Quote
TxHoops Posted March 22, 2015 Report Posted March 22, 2015 Really how often do these teams get to practice together or is it really who can make it there practices and the tourneys are where they all get together. Practice twice a week. The benefit for the 15s is they practice with and against the circuit 17s. So twice a week they are running against JJ Caldwell, Greg Shead, Kameron McGusty, TJ Atwood, Jeremy Peck, etc. You can't find that kind of competition locally. After that, playing up against 16s doesn't seem that bad ;) BLUEDOVE3 1 Quote
ST413 Posted March 22, 2015 Report Posted March 22, 2015 True they are definitely getting good experience. I just hope that some aspects aren't what they seemed today, like how much the officials let go. And, not that I would call it selfishness really but today I saw a lot of going to the hole and trying to finish without making a pass. I know I was told that that wasn't how,the coaches wanted it but it happened more than setting up,any semblance of an offense. One of the main things I liked this year watching Silsbee was how we played as a team nd I saw flashes of that but would love to see more of it. Quote

The better teams are the better passing teams, same as most basketball. The local kids have been playing summers since 6th grade or earlier and the Houston kids are blending in better every day. Very unselfish kids. Which is one of the main reason they are as good as they are. As for the older kids, catch a JJ Caldwell game sometime. He's a 4 point, 17 assists a game kind of PG. Super strong and quick with the ball. He gets to the paint and has a field day dropping dimes. Quote
