True,  but pay close attention to the UIL rule. You can attend but you still don't have to be eligible to play. I tried to warn a dad about moving his kid from Katy to Houston ISD.  His wife worked at the school.  He could not play varsity his senior year. It's all about where your parents LIVE.  That's the main thing the board looks for.

Was the kid you just mentioned trying to get into a good communications program?

Bluedove is absolutely right (as much as it pains me).  Residency trumps everything.  I've heard stories of coaches who took jobs in nearby schools from where they were and their kids were not eligible for varsity play immediately because they did not live in the district.  You can attend but, you will have to play underlevels for a year if you do not live in the district.

As much as it pains me to agree here :) but yep coaches think they can go coach at a school  ( & not live in the district) and bring their kid to play varsity. Thats not the way it works.

I wouldn't live anywhere to start with that didn't offer very good academics, but I never hear of anyone moving to follow the chemistry program :)

you haven't heard of the chemistry program at HD?  That's how the Four Horsemen got there ;)

Thats because of the "inner city" school  make-up for Ozen. Ozen has some very good teachers and programs & students. Both my boys qualified for college & NCAA the first time around. Anybody know Jos. Cantu at ozen will tell you that his math classes and tutoring will prepare you for college. Now, on the flip side, Ozen is one of those schools that accept every kind of student out there. They take students who would otherwise flourish in a small classroom setting, but public school life is hard for many of them. Thats why I am a strong proponent for schools like Oak Hill in Va. Every kid can learn, just gotta find the right learning environment for them.

    • Solid week.  Alone in 4th for the playoffs.  If I hadn’t started off down 16-18 picks after 4 weeks I’d be up near the top 🤦🏻‍♂️
    • This is good info. It doesn’t really break out for student athletes though. LP & (I think) DP are open enrollment because of the way the towns intertwine. That’s the way it’s been for many years anyway. I assume it still is that way. The kids have a choice after Jr. High to go to either High School because LPISD has elementary schools in DP. As I recall, DP didn’t want to build out more (Robin Hood issues), and so DPISD & LPISD came to an arrangement because LPISD is one of the highest givers to Robin Hood in the state, and it helped both keep more funds in district. Of course, LPISD is open to all. Not just DP, and LPISD is rated well. So, I assume they have kids from elsewhere also. Not positive though. They used to have a lot because—for decades—DeWalt was the only dedicated public school in the GHA that specifically catered to special needs kids. Families from all over enrolled. But, they didn’t participate in extracurricular activities like sports. So, LP’s total enrollment made them 6A. But, they were really a 5A school all along for sports program sake. This is all as best as I can recall from when I was more involved in school issues. I’m sure a lot has changed since then. My kids have been out for 20 years.
    • Our playoff rivalry. They hold a 6-5 edge in the series. I think Newton continues the win streak in a hard fought contest. What say y’all?
    • Has Elmo gotten his aggy premature extension yet?  Pay him already because you guys were exactly right - he really does “get you.” 😂🤣
