CCRed Posted August 15, 2015 Report Posted August 15, 2015 CougarCal is spot on. It lets you find out if the kids that haven't played before can play at the varsity level. A coach already knows what his returners can do. Playing Huffman probably does prepare us for a bi-district playoff match up though. Cougar14.2 and Daytonfan9210 2 Quote
HurricaneCal Posted August 16, 2015 Report Posted August 16, 2015 It shouldn't be hillarious. Because Huffman won't prepare you for a lot of things that a championship team will see on their 6 game March to state. The combination of team speed, size, and good coaching is what you have to prepare for... That's one reason Nederland and Angleton are on the schedule when games count. They play a team from your area that won how many straight? Angleton is another test before they start the district campaign. That's why Huffman isn't on the regular season schedule and Willis no longer is. Stattrax 1 Quote

Northern Lights Posted August 16, 2015 Report Posted August 16, 2015 Crosby played Atascocita back in like 2007/2008. They were 5A, Crosby was 4A. Quote
HurricaneCal Posted August 16, 2015 Report Posted August 16, 2015 The years I've been here Liltex they have had team like Montgomery, Dawson, PNG, Nederland, Angleton, Nederland, and Willis. Quote
Northern Lights Posted August 16, 2015 Report Posted August 16, 2015 The Cougars have traditionally played tough non-district games at least in the Flanigan & Riordan eras. They have played: Ennis, Dawson, Montgomery, PN-G, Angleton, and Nederland in the past 7-8 years. I will also mention that there have been whispers about Crosby possibly scheduling John Tyler for non-district next year. That is entirely speculation at this point though. Quote

HurricaneCal Posted August 16, 2015 Report Posted August 16, 2015 Pretty sure they were, don't really see the need in scheduling a 6a that's going to kick your teeth in. Scheduling a tough 5A team does more for you. Everyone always says why schedule someone you might see in the playoffs, but realistically you Know where you stand. Mr. Buddy Garrity 1 Quote

But another thing about Huffman.... Lack of numbers. Aren't they 4a? You won't face a team with small numbers in the playoffs.... Matter of fact, from an enrollment standpoint, isn't Crosby considered a small 5a school? So more than likely, you'll face teams in the playoffs that are bigger than you, enrollment wise... Quote

Go look up Dallas Skyline, big arse enrollment, only had a varsity roster that outnumbered EC and Kville by 9 kids. 44 kids versus Allen in that playoff game. Quote
HurricaneCal Posted August 16, 2015 Report Posted August 16, 2015 Soulja, Nederland may not do anything for athletically, but they are the best in the past 5 years (maybe even more) that your district has to offer. Coug88 Posted August 16, 2015 Report Posted August 16, 2015 If we understand what a Scrimmage is then why are we discussing games to be played in Nov - Dec. Essentially a practice held with a team 15 miles from home. That same scrimmage didn't seem to slow anyone down last year. Quote

Huffman has about 400 more kids than WOS does. Crosby will play 8 teams on the regular season schedule that have higher enrollments. They'll also scrimmage Willis next week who has an enrollment around 1850. I think they're doing fine in the strength of schedule department. On the other hand Central has lost their last two bi-district games by a combined 47 points. Maybe they need to be the ones looking into a different way to prepare for the playoffs? Quote
