Here is what I don't understand:  I am for a good, peaceful protest more than the next guy.  I think there are wrongs in society and the only way you fix them is by being heard.  I also understand (or perhaps empathize is a better word) some of the frustration.  

BUT it is illegal, at least in this State (and I am fairly certain in most states) to threaten another person with violence.  In Texas, we call it a "terroristic threat."  Granted, I have seen on numerous occasions this particular crime overlooked by authorities.  But we have seen an outbreak of violence and this type of discourse appears to even be inching others.   The bottom line is that freedom of speech does not extend to threatening someone with any form of violence, much less murder. 

So, my question is how are some of these so-called protests not considered criminal?  Maybe tvc can explain to me a difference I'm not seeing...

Simply the result of an overly permissive society ( my guess is that issue cannot be attributed to the right)  The more we tolerate it, the more often it takes place and the more aggressive the perpetrators become.

The "threat" in the article in the first post is not a terroristic that by Texas law. 

That law says it is a violation to make a threat of "imminent" death or serious bodily injury. Imminent is not defined in the Penal Code so we have to go to the dictionary. Imminent means about to happen or likely to occur at any moment. 

The article says that the Panthers say that "if" the police don't stop doing certain things then sometime in the future they will respond. That is hardly an "imminent" threat. 

We get similar calls all the time with conditional threats. "If you don't stop doing this, I am going to start doing that". There is a component of a threat there but it does not come close to a threat of something that is about to happen or in other words, imminent.

COuld you please point me to a link that reflects that contention?  If he did, I am sure these "gentlemen" are only carrying their weapons (and making their threats)_ for defensive purposes only.  They certainly dont want to harm or intimidate anyone.
