They are just young.  Shaka needs more time.

Your schtick is either tired or ignorant.  I don't know one Aggie who actually knows and understands the game (and I know they are few and far between) that wouldn't trade Kennedy for Shaka in a heartbeat.  And I like Kennedy and think he's done a great job in aggieland.  But stop with the Charlie comparisons.  It just sounds dumb.  Unless that's the Aggie stereotype you're trying to perpetuate.  In which case fire away!

It's more of a shot a Texas fans that claim every coach they hire is the greatest ever. We've seen it multiple times over the last few years in every sport yet y'all keep gloating at how great you are.

South Dakota, George Mason, Northeastern, Wright St, & Oregon St. have all beaten the Kent State team that Shaka lost to tonight.  Big 12 conference play should be fun starting on Friday.  7 of the 10 conference teams currently have records of 10-2 or better.  Shaka hasn't lived up to expectations so far at Texas.  Just be a man and admit it.

This post shows a glaring lack of understanding for the game which couldn't surprise me less.  If you don't know Shaka Smart is a great coach, I suggest picking a sport that moves a little slower to try and comprehend.  Picking a 12 game sample size where your two best players are 18 or 19 years old in your second season is small-minded at best.  Just be a man and admit you don't know your behind from your elbow when it comes to hoops.  It really is the first step.

This is his 2nd season, no?  I thought he coached that 1st round exit last year, but I guess I'm wrong.

This is college basketball!  Everyone's best players are 18-19 yrs old.  The youth argument is a joke.

He coached another man's team that consistently improved over the course of the season.  He lost in the first round on a half court prayer to a team that unfortunately didn't puke up a double digit lead like they did the next round.  He brought in two McD All Americans this year but did not land a PG.  Hopefully that will change with Coleman.  Every coach said it would be a struggle early this year with the makeup of the team.  It happens.

But for you to imply he wasn't a great hire is laughable to anyone with more than a rudimentary knowledge of the game.  He won the CBI in his first year at VCU as one of the youngest coaches in the country.  He proceeded to guide them into the NCAAs each year after that, including a final four appearance in a year they had to play in one of the "play in" games.

Shaka, despite the first 12 games of this year, is a great coach.  Again, for you to argue otherwise just embodies what most come to expect from aggyland when it comes to hoops.  A complete bewilderment.

Maybe you can also enlighten us on how Kryzewski and Dean Smith were bad hires until they started winning.  After all, each had exactly one season with a winning record in their first three seasons at Duke and UNC, respectively.  You can form your arguments on those wins and losses over those seasons.  After all, it's your best bet when you are unable to discern what you're watching.

Here's a hint though:  when you are among the elitest of recruiters and are a top Xs and Os guy, you are what we call a "home run hire."  But keep making the goofy remarks and implying he's not.  But stick around for a few years.  I will be here to tell you over and over and over "I told you so."  Kind of like the week or so you had fun with "zero chance."  But keep touching that stove, Bart.  Gives me something to look forward to

Youth is a joke ONLY when you talk about Kentucky, etc.. UT has one player with a legitimate shot at One and Done. The rest are "young".

Texas with a nice win over 10-3 okie lite.  Much needed for their confidence.

Okie Lt has lost 6 straight and is in last place in the Big 12.  Texas is 1-5 and in 9th place out of 10 teams, with their only conference win against 0-6 Okie Lt.

A&M is terrible too if that makes it any better.

    • Well Mustang fans it's time for my annual end of season rant. I've had so much company up here on the soapbox that I may have to start charging rent. After 3 years I don't think anything needs to be said. We all know what's wrong. We all know why. So what's the decision at the next board meeting? IMO, there's been enough imaginary success for the board to rubber stamp the Superintendent's vision for our future student athletes. #make every second count Due to soft scheduling and a weaker than normal district. The luck of knocking off 2 ranked opponents early when they were not healthy or still trying to figure it out. Also led to a premature ranking and a hollow DCTF weekly award. The 2 late season losses vs ranked teams proves what we know has been the biggest problem.  Football 19-15 .559 Baseball 9-35 .205 Basketball 19-35 .352 GBB 11-29 .275 Softball 1-22 .043 Volleyball 0-38 .000 Overall 59-174 .253   For anyone living in the district, I ask that you contact you're elected board members publicly and privately. Don't let them think this is exceptable. Be the solution to the equation. Not the divisor. This starts at the top and falls heavily upon those walking the halls. They deserve better.
    • I don't think it's 6-5 maybe 4-3
    • Sounds like a good idea, and something’s been needed for a long time. I know—where my kids & grandkids live now (DFW area)—schools are like revolving doors for athletic purposes. I don’t think the DPISD & LPISD option enrollment are anywhere like that. I assume it’s pretty above board since it was an arrangement apparently agreed to also by the state. I do know some kids that went to LPISD elementary schools in DP chose to go to DPHS because of the district rating. (Of course, at the time, DPISD and DP in general wasn’t very racially mixed like La Porte.) LPISD has a high number of kids on assistance programs compared to DP. Say what you will, it does make it more difficult for educational purposes and scores can reflect as much. LPISD is still rated high even with that challenge. Some of the kids that chose DPHS were very solid athletes that I’m sure LP would love to have had attend LPHS. Of course, part of the big rivalry between DP & LP has always been because DP ‘looked down’ on LP even though we worked side-by-side. Now that Shell DP refinery has been sold to PEMEX, DP is changing. Some aren’t happy about it. Some of us in LP are kinda tickled about it after the history.
