TxHoops Posted November 21, 2015 Report Posted November 21, 2015 Some of you were doubting whether or not Devon McCain could handle varsity....now you see! Let's not forget Mr. Adams either. 15 pts in a varsity debut as a freshman against a quality opponent - not too shabby. Great thing about both of those kids is they do so much more than score the ball. You can bet McCain had a fair share of assists and Adams passes, rebounds and defends really well. DXTR 1 Quote
mistanice Posted November 21, 2015 Report Posted November 21, 2015 Apparently so. I can assure you, even without the football guys (who will definitely improve the team), the Silsbee team you played tonight would be a playoff team and a formidable one at that. That is a good first showing for Diboll for sure!what number is McCain? Quote
ST413 Posted November 21, 2015 Report Posted November 21, 2015 Great win for these guys and yes Good showing by Diboll. Still think you will see more of a difference than you think once the guys playing football get back and into basketball shape. All those legs will stay fresher and you will have more inside presence and rebounding. winwin 1 Quote

BMTSoulja1 Posted November 21, 2015 Report Posted November 21, 2015 The young gun, Adams hit 5 three pointers for those 15 points. Welcome to varsity! You and Devin! BADSANTA and Silsbeealum14 2 Quote
mistanice Posted November 21, 2015 Report Posted November 21, 2015 Jamarcus Polk led Diboll with 29 points. Quote
BADSANTA Posted November 21, 2015 Report Posted November 21, 2015 Harris seems to be ready for a big year. I thought he was the best pure basketball player on the team last year. I think the starting lineup once football is over will be Grubbs, Harris, Dontre Thomas, Mike McCain, and Devon McCain. The bench will be the best in 4A. Mackey, Barnes, Adams, Newton, and Maze. Im no expert.... hold the comments. lol.I just cant see Barnes not being on the floor for the start and finish of ANY game this year. Young man grew big time last year and with the advent of a couple of drive, stop and shoot point guard additions this year, his EVERREADY rebounding/put back skills are a must. Agreed, for KB to play the majority minutes he will have to improve even more, but man I like his aggressive style. It should pay big dividends with L' McCain running the point, Mike J on the wings creating havoc with his style and hopefully the "shooters" (Grubbs, Harris and Adams) keeping people out the paint.Again, great spot as a coach but tough decisions with Thomas, Mackey and Barnes sharing playing time.Cant wait for the show. ST413 Posted November 21, 2015 Report Posted November 21, 2015 I agree Barnes was impressive last year. I won't be surprised by any lineup. I just don't really see Dontre on the bench. The thing will be how Coach wants to play. I suspect depending on how many he ends up with on varsity he will primarily go with 2 or 3 groups of 5 and rotate them regularly. Sure some games may dictate otherwise. If he does that it may not be necessarily the top 5 starting but having a balance or best fits in each group. If he tends to do go with a starting 5 and bring in replacements along individual lines instead of as a group, it would be hard not to have Mike J. Grubbs and Dontre as part of the starters. But nothing would surprise me at all. Quote
ST413 Posted November 21, 2015 Report Posted November 21, 2015 And no I am no expert either, leave them tough decisions to the Coach. Quote
Tyler Dixson Posted November 22, 2015 Report Posted November 22, 2015 Tre Grubbs had 18 boards and 12 assists last night. Quote
ST413 Posted November 22, 2015 Report Posted November 22, 2015 I was wondering about him by the pound scored by the 3 listed and I think I saw another had 14. That didn't leave much space for him in the scoring but it looks like he had a great game! Good work Tre!! Quote
DXTR Posted November 22, 2015 Report Posted November 22, 2015 Tre Grubbs had 18 boards and 12 assists last night. my opinion, he is the best player on a team of VERY good players. Now, I also think Devon will eventually be the best to come through Silsbee in a long time. Quote
