Djones8301 Posted December 7, 2015 Report Posted December 7, 2015 I talked to one of the YMBL/BISD staff Friday, and I explained to him the situation with pool play, limited tournaments via UIL, and the displeasure of team's playing a possible 2 game tournament. He stated that they are going to take a closer look and explore going pool play. Well, at least that's what he told me...Yea Ive spoken to a couple of members and they are considering pool play. Teams want to play as many games as possible in a tournament, I believe this will get a bunch of teams back. This has a chance to be a great tournament again. BMTSoulja1, BLUEDOVE3 and rc2182 3 Quote

BLUEDOVE3 Posted December 7, 2015 Report Posted December 7, 2015 Or maybe offer something no other tournament is offering. I would consider doing a Super Pool. Pull in several top teams and allow them to play each other in their own elite Pool. Quote

People have said it is about volunteers but if they used the 3 Beaumont schools and Memorial on Thursday and Friday for just 2 games or even 2 gyms for 4 games each they could get volunteers and it would be just like a regular home game. They are able to get volunteers for those games so why not for the tournament? Then Saturday play at 3 sites using the YMBL volunteers, but instead of an elementary school use Ozen or Central. The formula that I posted on the other thread would work perfectly for this tournament and more teams would come if they are being given a chance for 4-5 games with up 3 being in Division I gym. I think BISD should incorporate South Park Middle School Gym. Its a new gym and down the street from the host site. That gives you four sites if you include Ozen High. More than enough space to run tournaments.Move all your consolation games to the lower level gyms away from the host site, if additional space is needed. I still would like to see a Super Pool for recruiting and marketing purposes. For example, Most top teams want to play other top teams and will gravitate to the competition. Super Pools will help keep the 'Super" teams from playing the weaker teams in the tourney. Everybody get their games and the fans get to see the top schools compete against each other. Quote

Haven't been to South Park. 4 Gyms playing 8 games Thursday and Friday at Montagne and MacDonald and 4 games at the other 2 gyms would work and it would be a lot easier getting afterschool volunteers than if there were only 3 sites. Saturday they could use the 3 sites and have 8 games in every gym. I just used the high school because if say there are 4 pools more than likely West Brook, Central, Ozen and Memorial would each be in separate pools. Once they make the determination to go to pool play, then it would not take long getting 16 teams and building the bracket. A super pool could work but it would be complicated having to determine what teams would be in the super pool. Would any of the 3 coaches agree that they should not be placed in the pool? A 16 team tournament with 7-8 good teams will still get the at least 3 games against good teams. Quote
