As an assistant coach you are hired as a teacher. The coaching is an added responsibility for which you receive extra pay.

Your job performance is based on what you do in the classroom, not as a coach.

Maybe that is the problem in GCM, you have a bunch of "hens" coaching football.

If you don't think assistant football coaches are hired because of their ability to coach then you are sadly mistaken. In "Big Time" high school football coaches are coaches, the ability to teach in a classroom is completely secondary.

There are no "hens" at GCM.

You would be surprised to learn that most quality coaches are also quality classroom educators. They tend to go hand in hand.

I am fully aware that in reality they hire coaches based on coaching.

But right here you say they are hired as teachers, correct?

Obviously, all coaches have to teach and yes you are correct when you say many coaches are also very good teachers in the class room.

But, the assistant coaches "job" is based on how good a coach he is. Of you can't coach, then you won't be coaching for long. Regardless of how good a teacher you are.

And dude, there are "hens" everywhere. I guarantee you the English department is a full blown "hen" house at GCM just like it is everywhere else. The "hens" have meetings every day in the teachers lounge over lunch.

How many football coaches are in the English department at GCM?

I was talking about how it should be done, not how it is done.

I want to win football games as much or more than most people. I do not want to sacrifice education to that end. But I am not blind to reality.

There are plenty of non-core subject areas and non-tested core subject areas in every school to put coaches in. You can have a quality education program and a quality athletic program at the same time, it just takes a commitment to both on part of the administration.
