Nederland swimmers make their mark

The Nederland High School swim team, coached by Judy Sandoval, has wrapped up a record-setting season that saw Nick Hoezler named District 21-4A male swimmer of the year for the second time and Sam Wickizer voted female swimmer of the year for the first time.

After a strong showing at the regional meet last week in Sugarland, one Bulldog is still swimming. Wickizer advanced to the Texas State Swim Meet Friday and Saturday at the University of Texas. She placed third in the 100-yard butterfly and fourth in the 500-yard freestyle at regional.

Others who placed in regional included:

Nick Hoezler, who took fifth in the 50-yard freestyle and fourth in the 100-yard freestyle, a race in which he set a school record.

Kyle Mills, who placed foruth in the 100-yard butterfly and fourth in the 100-yard backstroke.

Hoezler, Mills, Patrick Wilson and Bryce Darder, who made up the boys 200-yard medley relay which placed seventh.

Markee Johnson, who placed seventh in the girls 100-yard backstroke.

Theresa Nguyen, Wickizer, Kaitlan Borden and Johnson, who finished fifth in the girls 200-yard freestyle relay, setting a school record; and seventh in the 200-yard medley relay.
