Perhaps you don't understand the term "hypothetical"......:P

No I don't understand that. Let me google it.

Wow, I thought it meant definitive or factual. Now I find out it is akin to a supposition or theoretical.

Or perhaps you don't understand the term "facetious" which is a caveat I put after my statement.

So how you can google facetious and caveat.  sHa_thumb2.gif

It would be more headaches and hassles than it's worth, and contrary to the arguments made on here on military, that would be a huge pain in the butt to get started, and would cost many billions of dollars to do so.  We'd also be greatly outgunned and outmanned by the USA, and would be under their thumb.  While we could certainly be self-sufficient, it would be counterproductive at best.

The transition to a Republic would cost, some individuals possibly more, but as PN-G pointed out if our current taxes would be a surplus to Texas overall.

But not sure I understand the counterproductive.  Perhaps we are looking at diff aspects?   I'm no genius so bear with me.  We're currently in a country where approx 50% of the electorate will vote for a party that is for Socialism.  Would not have happened 30 years ago.  Will that get better?  No way.  Why?  Because our educational institutions continue to brainwash most students.  In blue states, Calif for instance, from kindergarten thru college.  As these new advocates of Socialism or Communism enter into the electorate, it's inevitable that in the near future the United States will be a Socialist country.  As 5GB pointed out, this won't affect me, but I hate it for my kids & grandkids.

Now, me & my family have loved the US.  Served in the Army for it.  My son in the Corp.  Don't want to leave it.  Just think we're being forced too.

Now I'd appreciate anyone to explain to me where or why I'm wrong on us being on the road to Socialism.  But make a solid case. Don't just tell me it'll never happen.  I've seen to many things happen that I Never thot would happen.  And If you're conservative or independent, you will too.

My whole thought process was the U.S. would be pretty upset with us.I doubt the vets we do currently have in the military from texas would be allowed even if they wanted to. Many Texans would also leave Texas a lot of business would too. We'll have a big problem with our southern neighbors. what happens if we're hit by two cat.4 hurricanes in back to back years. I just can't imagine any good.

Id rather weather a storm now than have my children/grandchildren living in a communist/socialist country.

That's about where we are now.  If Sanders somehow wins the election, I say Texas should go for it.  It will be like living in China or Russia if that idiot gets in.  Will not be much different with Clinton either.

just wondering. none of you find it very unamerican to be talking about leaving the country we all claim we love.

Do you actually think exercising our first amendment rights is un-American?

Do you think the government taking half of everyone's paycheck and is still $20,000,000,000,000 (that is trillion) in debt is American?

I take issue with a lot this country do. but never to the point of talking or suggesting succeeding. The U.S. is the greatest nation to ever exist don't let politicians tell you other wise. Fight to improve your country that's the most patriotic thing any of us can do.

Its hypocritical to question the president and politicians love for our nation at the same time talking succeeding from the nation you all seem to love. I do find that very unpatriotic.

This thread is about succeeding with seceding. It is very American to question the moves of our president or any politician. It was designed that way so as not to fall victim to dictators.

Seceding is a topic of discussion. Do you have an opinion of whether or not Texas could stand on her own?

When this country is at a point where it is unpatriotic to question the president or any other politician, then it's definitely time to secede!

And what is your definition of the "greatest nation"....MONEY, Technology, health care, constant change to constitution,.....A debt that will never get paid, where the entertainment industry is portrayed as semi gods of be all end all.  Where others put in hard work to support those that don't. where murdering babies is ok.  where our prison systems are maxed out. gay marriage is allowed.  where our vets struggle with getting jobs and health care treatment . WHere teachers, police, fireman are severely underpaid while politicians and entertainers fill their pockets.

Im very thankful for are forefathers and the past bravery of all our soldiers.  What they stood for is not where this country is headed.  Its easy to refuse to see what is actually happening and where we are headed if you ve been swallowed by this great CHANGE

liberal ways will eventually catch up to you/country.

Pam, I honestly admire the fact that you get on this thread and defend your position, your thoughts, and your feelings.  I'm also saddened because no one has joined you.  In my earlier post on the US heading to socialism or communism, I wanted someone a lot smarter than me to explain why I was wrong.  Why, because I do love this country. None have done so.  Since you and I are probably very close to the same IQ level, I want to make an effort to show you why, on most of your points, I think we disagree, based from my perspective

Greatest nation to ever exist - we agree, absolutely.  But it's headed down the wrong road.  Socialism/communism has no business in a country where all should expect freedom.  The current Democratic Party platform advocates Socialism, and a few Republicans either do, or at least don't appear to question it.  B. Sanders is an admitted Socialist, and in an interview, Hillary couldn't (wouldn't) explain the diff in the DNC platform and Socialism, and they have approx 50% of the electorate vote.  You said fight to improve the country.  I know you meant in the system, but how do you fight the idealism of almost 50% of voters with most educators turning out hundreds of thousands more yearly, which in our soon to be lost democracy, will consummate the change.  IMO it's to late for that. To many of us kept thinking it wouldn't go this for and stuck our heads in the sand.  The other "fight", which is physical, like our founding fathers did, would be a bloody, horrible event.  To horrible to contemplate. Many of the Militia's you hear about are preparing for that now.

Secession, if done soon before the Socialist/Communist take over, again my opinion, would not invoke an attack from the US.  It would not be easy, but minuscule sacrifice compared to those at Valley Forge, and throughout the Revolutionary War.

Finally, I'll address your last comment that you find secession from the country we love unpatriotic.  I can only speak for me, but the path this country I love is now taking is leading to a place where, "I love this country" will change to "I loved this country".

This post probably won't change your mind, and I respect that.  Just want you, and sadly probably the majority of other Texans, to know why those of us who are for secession think what we do.

you guys or not the first to feel disappointed with your country. when women felt this country was headed in the wrong direction they organized demanded change and got what they wanted. When blacks were unable to vote or do anything they organized marched and demanded change and got it. Our forefathers might not agree with the direction of this country but I'm sure they would fight for change not look for a way out. And stop letting politicians tell you how bad this country is that's there job. if we had no debt no Isis unemployment was at 0 the opposition will still tell you the sky is falling how else could they get elected. This is still the greatest nation to ever exist.

They fought for separation from the Crown.  True, just as those that share my opinion want to fight to escape the oppressive govt of the US that we perceive as inevitable.   But thru secession, hopefully it would be bloodless.  And you speak of leaving?  We don't want to leave Texas.  And if we don't secede, and our Govt becomes what many of us fear, a Govt that will determine virtually everything in your life -  From what you can own, guns, type food you eat, the car you have, what you learn about current events - this is a small sampling and I listed them because they're already working on these and many more, then many of us will say, Give me liberty or give me death.
