KFDM COOP Posted February 18, 2007 Report Posted February 18, 2007 Bean rules 3,200 at Bulldog RelaysVan WadeThe Orange LeaderNEDERLAND — The 2007 Southeast Texas track season got off with flying colors Friday at the 43rd annual Nederland Bulldog Relays.Eighteen boys teams and 13 girls teams participated in the large event.Barbers Hill High School conitnued its grand track tradition as both the Lady Eagles and Ealges walked away with the team crowns.The Lady Eagles won with 142 points, easily outsidtancing second-place Beaumont Ozen (898 3/4). The Eagle boys won with 110 points while the host Bulldogs were a distant second with 85.Little Cypress-Mauriceville senior Drew Bean, who won the Class 4A state championship in cross country, started his campaign with an awesome start, strolling to an easy win in the 3,200 meters with an amazing time of 9:27.38. Evadale’s Ryan Wise was a very distant second with a 10:22.16.Orange County received four more first-place finishes as Bridge City’s Johnny Dishon claimed the triple jump with a leap of 44-3 3/4. Orangefield’s Shea Mayo claimed the pole vault with a vault of 12-6 and Vidor’s Jared Williamson win the high jump with a 6-0 effort. Bridge City’s Cody Mills zipped to a first-place finish in the 100 meters, running an 11.78.LC-M’s David Sicktich was second in the discus with a heave of 143-1. Orangefield’s Daniel Winfree nabbed second in the high jump with a 6-0 effort but had more attempts than Vidor’s Williamson. Bridge City’s Troy Bolton claimed second in the 110-meter hurdles (16.97).Next week, West Orange-Stark will play host to the 15th annual Mustang Relays with the meet being held at Orangefield High School.
