22-5A

Recommended Posts

You are right about it being a fun and interesting second half.  Whoever slips up between Nederland, Vidor and Lumberton will be sitting at home come playoffs.  With us being a young team, I like our chances.  We might be starting to gel at just the right time.  Let's hope for an injury-free second half for all teams.

Head to head is the first tiebreaker in 22-5A.

14. TIE-BREAKERS A. If two teams are tied then the first tiebreaker is head to head. If the two teams have a split then a single game will be played to determine seeding. (Coaches may agree to not play and agree on seeding.)

B. If more than two teams are tied a mini single elimination tournament will be played to determine seeding.

1) If 3 teams are tied a mini tournament will be played and a coin flip will determine which team gets the bye in a 3 team bracket. All 3 teams flip a coin and the odd coin gets the bye. The other two teams play each other with winner playing the team that got the bye. This tournament will be played on consecutive days. (Coaches may agree to not play and agree on sedding, but all must agree.)

2) If 4 or more teams are tied then a mini tournament will be played. Seeding for the tournament will be determined by drawing numbers from a hat. 1 will play 4 and 2 will play 3 and then the winners will play. (If losers of 1 st two games need to play for a 3rd and/or 4th seed then that game will also be played but only if necessary.) (Coaches may agree to not play and agree on seeding, but all must agree.) This tournament will be played on consecutive days.

3) If more than 5 teams are tied then a tournament will be played following rules of (B). This tournament will be played on consecutive days.

If I understand the 22-5A tiebreakers correctly, a loss to Vidor tonight will effectively eliminate any playoff hopes for Lumberton.  That is assuming that Vidor beats Central this week.  Am I looking at this wrong?

No, if Lumberton losses and Nederland wins then Lumbertons out. But if they both lose then it will come down to Thursdays game between them two. If Lumberton was to win that one then the tie breaker rule would take place because Vidor would have beaten Lumberton twice and Lumberton would have beaten Nederland twice. Now if Vidor was to pull a upset and beat PNG then Lumberton would be in if they win Thursday.

4/26 games -  Ned loses (8-5)

                       Lum loses (7-6)

                       Vidor wins (7-5)

Vidor wins vs Central (8-5)

4/29 games - Ned loses (8-6)

                      Lum wins (8-6)

                     Vidor loses (8-6)

In this scenario they play a mini tournament. (3 way tie rule.)

    • I agree but Hitchcock had better skill players
    • Waco LaVega is about equal to Hitchcock in speed and size.
    • You’re the one talking about Elementary school kids.  What I’m saying is that there are kids who play Jr School ball in GCCISD and then transfer into BHISD/GPISD/LPISD/DPISD between 8th and 9th.  Doing so means no PAPF/eligibility questionnaire and they get to play Freshman/JV, work out with the team, etc. and look homegrown because they transferred before freshman year.  it’s a loophole.  All the big programs do it.  That’s why the UIL rules changes, to close up the 8th-to-9th transfer portal, and it isn’t even taking effect until Aug 1 2025 so you’ll see these transfers this summer. Also, as far as BHISD being closed instead of open, just look at the GCCISD transfer numbers I posted.  GCCISD loses twice as many kids to BHISD per year, the “closed” district, than they do to the open Districts in the area.  Anyone who lives here knows folks who’ve used MeeMaw’s address to get their kids in there.  It is what it is and if it wasn’t, UIL wouldn’t be changing those rules and sending one of their own to the DECs now would they?   Go ask Coach Abseck how many kids in his program are 8th Grade transfers.  We know that at North Shore that number is at least 20% because of the numbers they had to provide UIL during their recruiting investigation.  I’ll bet BHISD’s numbers are AT LEAST that.  Again, THEY ALL DO IT.
    • According to Texas Tribune, Gccisd, Laporte and deer park are all rated B. Barbers Hill is an A. GC has a higher 4 year graduation rate than LP or DP. BH is far and away the best district on this side of town. GC has a much higher percentage economically disadvantaged at 71.7% with LP being next closest at 52%. Surprised that GC is performing so well considering. All of the players that would likely make a great football team are out by GCM and Sterling. If GCM had Lee's coach and dropped back down into 5A division 1, they would be able to compete very well against BH and LP. I don't know what their problem is with getting the athletes to gel into an actual team. Lee still beat them both this year and was sort of a down year by Lee's standards. Lot of injuries some kids moved out of district and they are paper thin as it is.
