stevenash
You mentioned how you like a good debate and I think I have a question that might interest you. Additionally, it is not of a local nature, so there is little, if any danger, of doing harm to any of the good people of Southeast Texas. Here is your situation: You are the owner of a new NBA expansion team and money is no object when it comes to hiring the head coach. Your team of advisors has narrowed the list of applicants down to four and you now will make the final hiring decision. The four applicants are: George Karl, Steve Kerr, Mike Brown, and Byron Scott. Who is your choice and why?

Who is your choice and why? I think my choice would CLEARLY be Steve Kerr....I think George Karl is past his time and can not relate to today's NBA players, I think Mike Brown is ok, but not as an attractive hire as Kerr would be given his resume, and Byron Scott, is not a players coach...Kerr, in my opinion, will only get BETTER as a coach. He waited until later in his life to start coaching, but I think he GETS it as a coach. Why do you ask this?
stevenash
Then you are saying you would hire the less experienced "newbie" rather than someone with more experience. Could someone not say that you were hiring him strictly because of his skin color? Why do you think he "gets it"? Wasn't most of the roster already in place when he came on board? Did he "know something" that the other coachers don't? What if Kevin Ollie was an applicant in place of Brown? Still same answer?

There are SEVERAL coaches I would take over Kerr, but of the list given, he would be the guy. I don't think I would choose Kevin Ollie over Kerr, but although Mark Jackson DID put that team together, Kerr did a good job of completing the task and winning a title, and on the brink of a second. I think Kerr is still learning the game of coaching, but because of his experience and mindset, I think that he GETS it. Meaning he understands the game well enough to trust his assistants and realize that he does not know everything. That's a big part of coaching. stevenash
Agree- and one needn't be a hall of fame coach to be qualified for a particular job?

HOWEVER, if there are two coaches vying for a spot and one happens to be a HOF coach with three titles and nine final four appearances, it may warrant a bit of an edge in his favor....don't you think?
