Already driven to Memphis and Jackson on one trip. Driving to Atlanta next week and then flying to the middle of the Pacific for a week.

Leaving for the Smokies in a couple of weeks.

Some of the prettiest mountains I have seen.

Going to San Antonio for my 30th anniversary. Staying right across from the Alamo.....you know, where John Wayne and Richard Widmark fought. Then go cruising around hill country......Shulenberg, Gruene (sp.), Round Top, and the like. I love the hill country. Does it count as a trip if I don't leave Texas?

Currently in Newnan, Ga, about 30 min west of Atlanta on I-85.  They were so excited to have someone from Evadale.   Wanted a parade, but I ask them to keep my visit low profile :)

PS:  Might pass you.  Heading home next week.  The I-65 from Mobile to Montgomery seems like 500 miles lol

We've wanted to do that again.  Went to Fredericksburg and saw the Nimitz museum.  I heard they've upgraded it.  Friend said Tue or Wed best days.  Less crowds. If you like history, you'll probably enjoy it.

Change of plan. National lunchlady convention in San Antonio. Staying in Wimberly Inn now. John Wayne and Richard Widmark will have to wait another time.

Might go to Johnson City and eat at Hill Country Cupboard that serves a world famous chicken fried steak. Had it before and it is good. Also going to Saltlick again. Very good food. Making myself hungry.

Me too, but making me hungry is easy lol.   Was watching these folks grilling ribs on TV.  My wife ask if I was hungry watching it.  Told her if you threw a bbq rib on the living room floor, I'd break both kneecaps getting to it :)

I went way out of my way one time just to try Hill Country Cupboard. A friend raved about it so I figured I would try it. I was not disappointed. In fact, I might just have to plan a little trip to go back.

When I ordered, I told the waitress that I would have the "World Famous" chicken fried steak and she started laughing. Guess it was the way I said it. I was being kind of a smartarse. All the trimmings were delicious. Great home cooking.

Being truthful, I almost didn't stop because it looked a little run down. I changed my mind and went back. Glad I did. Great food and the staff was very friendly. Means a lot to me.

Ought to shorten the drive significantly.   Plus, between my wife and my my MILaw, who is 89, I now know the location of every rest area, restroom, porta potty, and large clumps of trees between Evadale and Georgia :)

Had to skip a summer vacation because of work, so booked a cruise for Thanksgiving break. This will be our 3rd. Kids are older this time around, so hopefully we can experience some night life on this one.

I'm headed to Lake Tahoe/Reno next week for the National Bowling Tournament.  Lake Tahoe for 4 nights, Reno for 1 to bowl.

Reno is a dump, but Lake Tahoe is pretty awesome in the summer as well as winter.  Should be a fun trip and maybe I can win some money.

Some of the scenes for Bonanza, that were not hollywood sets, were shot at Tahoe. Very beautiful indeed.

Heard of a hotel on the Nevada/California border that has a stripe throughout the hotel dividing the two states. You can gamble on one side and not the other. Think it is in Tahoe. May be a myth.

All of the casinos are on the California side of the border which is weird since that's what Nevada is known for.

What I remember most about the Smoky's is viewing cars on the other side of the forge and then realizing that was where we were headed (I was just a kid). Also the timberline, looked as if it were cut that way.
