I think it is in that category but probably A Change Is Gonna Come by Sam Cooke. 

It is not only a great song, the meaning is pretty deep.

Only You by The Platters. One of the great voices. Not sure if that is classified as soul, but I'll go with that.

I had My Girl my fav Rock Song, so it fits here also.  I'll go with LRF ON Sitting on the Dock of the Bay.   Love Four tops singing, Sugar Pie Honey Bunch and Its the Same Old Song (still have the 33 of their Best Hits).  I like Dolly Parton and her version of, I Will Always Love You, which she wrote, but Whitney Houston hit a Grand Slam singing it.  What a beautiful voice.  Her death left a void in the singing world.  Almost forgot one of the great ones, Rainy Night in Georgia, by Brook Benton.
