Definition of your Program

Recommended Posts

With the UIL allowing three and four teams to go to the playoffs, I was wondering what was considered a great program now.  So I came up with this criteria for a ten year window, tell me what you think.

1. Exceptional- multiple state championship appearances and at least one title in ten years

2.Great- Semis or better three times

3. Good- Second round or better in five of ten years

4. Average- Playoffs in five of ten years

5. Decent- Playoffs in three or less years

6. Below- Two or below playoff appearances in ten years

This is not perfect but i am just curious of what will be said

I'd probably adjust your criteria a bit but you are right on. Making the playoffs shouldn't be the benchmark any more. The avg district size is around 6-7 teams. So you finished 4th of 6 and that's success?  Great post. +1

Well as for Central since 2006

2006:  Beat Barbers Hill 31-28 in Bi-District; Lost to LaMarque 30-7 in Area; 8-4 overall, 6-1 in District

2007:  No playoffs, 4-6 overall, 2-5 in District

2008:  Beat North Forest 21-0 in Bi-District; Beat Lockhart 24-21 in Area; Beat Angleton 35-34 in Regionals; Lost to Friendswood 20-19 in Quarters; 9-4 overall, 5-2 in District

2009:  Beat Goose Creek Memorial 7-0 in Bi-District; Beat Huntsville 28-24 in Area; Lost to Friendswood 44-22 in Regionals; 9-4 overall, 5-2 in District

2010:  Beat Galena Park 44-16 in Bi-District; Lost to Humble 27-21 in Area; 8-4 overall, 6-1 in District

2011:  No playoffs; 2-8 overall, 1-6 in District

2012:  No playoffs; 3-7 overall, 3-4 in District

2013:  Lost to Summer Creek 24-9 in Bi-District; 6-5 overall, 5-2 in District

2014:  Lost to CE King 55-23 in Bi-District; 7-4 overall, 6-1 in District

2015:  Lost to CE King 32-31 in Bi-District; 5-6 overall, 5-2 in District

Using your criteria, I would have to say GOOD in the 1st half of the 10 year span but DECENT since...

It would be nice if it went back to the top two teams. I hated seeing a 0-10 Scarborough team in the playoffs.

I don't mind 4 in. Especially when some districts have 5 teams and others have 9 (like 21-5A). I've seen many 4th place teams better than other district champs or runners up. It all gets weeded out after week 1 of playoffs anyway. I just don't think making the playoffs can be used alone as a criteria for a successful season.

Well, using this criteria I guess we're good?

2006: 1st round baptism by Dayton

2007: 1st round re-born baptism by Dayton

2008: 1st round beat Lumberton, 2nd round 31-24 loss Brenham

2009: 1st round beat Nederland, 2nd round beat Montgomery, 3rd round 27-20 loss Dawson

2010: 1st round beat Nederland, 2nd round loss Montgomery

2011: 1st round loss to a team that shall remain nameless

2012: 1st round beat Ozen, 2nd round loss Manor

2013: 1st round beat PNG, 2nd round loss Elgin

2014: 1st round beat Ozen, 2nd round beat PLC, 3rd round beat Brenham, 4th round beat Hutto, 5th round loss Cedar Park

2015: 1st round beat Lumberton, 2nd round loss FB Ridge Point

7 of 10 years past the first round. Something else I noticed while doing this exercise is that only one true SETX team has beaten Crosby in the playoffs the last decade.

Barbers Hill since 2006:

2006: Lost to Central 31-28 in Bi-District, 10-1 overall, 7-0 in District

2007: No playoffs, 6-4 overall, 4-3 in District

2008: No playoffs, 3-6 overall, 3-4 in District

2009: Lost to Port Neches-Groves 21-7 in Bi-District, 5-6 overall, 4-3 in District

2010: Lost to PN-G 21-13 in Bi-District, 7-4 overall, 6-1 in District

2011: Lost to Ozen 40-36 in Bi-District, 9-2 overall, 6-1 in District

2012: Beat Livingston 31-0 in Bi-District, lost to Elgin 45-21 in Area, 8-4 overall, 5-3 in District

2013: No playoffs, 6-4 overall, 4-4 in District

2014: No playoffs, 6-4 overall, 4-4 in District

2015: No playoffs, 4-6 overall, 3-5 in District

So according to texaslonghorn14's criteria, BH is about average.
