I'm not very adventurous when trying exotic or strange foods. I grew up with Cajun friends so I have eaten some things:

Blackbird

Squirrel

Coon

Nutria

Gar

Dog food (had to try it once)

Had to swallow my pride a few times.

The first three is what I go to the casino for.

I can eat about 4 doz oysters. Then I start on the crabs, alligator, and frog legs!

I get my monies worth. I will drink a coffee  after dinner, but no room for dessert!

Which one, L'Auberge?   Been a while since I've been there.  Last time, I had a whole plate full of food.  Started back to my table and saw this gigantic bowl of already peeled boiled shrimp.  Had to take plate to table & go back and get a plate full of them.  Average person would've been in trouble, but I maned up and ate it all, and like you, couldn't eat dessert.

If squirrels, various birds, gator , wild pig and deer are strange.... I guess I have eaten something strange. Those seem like everyday fare in southeast TX but obviously not everyone has eaten it. Seems far from "strange" however.  

"Maybe" in that category that I have eaten is pig ear salad and jellyfish salad..... and maybe strange for most people (including me), haggis.

I'm going with conch.   Guy on the boat dove down and got a couple, then came up and sliced them with lime and tomatoes.  Pretty dang chewy.

Tried it once. Couldn't get the taste out of my mouth for hours. It was nasty. Someone told me it wasn't cooked right.

They're actually pretty good...like anything I guess...an acquired taste.

If it was on the table, we figured out how to like it.

I always figured that if something was an acquired taste, there are usually no reason to acquire it.

You didn't grow up in my house...you either "acquired" a taste for what we had or waited for the next meal...Mom didn't cook any alternative foods.

Teenage boys always opted to acquire rather than wait.
