Peppermint Patty
Too many kids that don't play football. Opening GCM only diluted the talent pool. BlackShirts5

All 3 schools field a JV and Varsity. Lee has a 3rd team that only plays on Saturdays. We just have a lot of kids that work to help the family or to have the things they want. Sports take a back seat. Many work and play a sport. It's tough though. Baseball/softball is one of the few sports that seems to have good participation. Tennis at RSS and GCM do well too. John Blutarsky
I think it's a variety of things. Olin built a great program. Kids moved in to play for him. When we went to 3 schools, the talent level became too diluted and Lee being in the old part of town was already seeing declining numbers. Similar to the situation in the Golden Triangle. The difference though is that the third high school was an immediate and drastic effect where the decline in setx is slow so they are able to maintain quality programs. So now you have some instances where a few kids move to stronger local programs such as Crosby and Northshore or just lose interest. I know that there are a number of single sport kids, namely basketball and baseball, at GCM that could help the program either as starters or just adding depth. Also the shifting demographics like Buddy alluded to have a small impact as well though I don't see it getting as bad as Pasadena. That being said, there is a glimmer of hope. Baytown and Barbers Hill are still seeing tremendous growth. GCM sits in the highest growth area of Baytown and is already adding on to the building with room for more additions. Hell, there is even supposed to be a new master planned, $200,000 + home neighborhood being built in Lee's zone in the Evergreen area. That will probably effect BCA' s enrollment more than Lee's but will provide more tax revenue for the school. Mr. Buddy Garrity
