Another rules question!

To open the second half tonight Livingston tried the onside kick I have seen a few times lately.  The kicked the ball high and wide to the front line.  The Livingston player ran and caught the ball possibly running into the raider player.  Flags flew and they ended up calling illegal touching gave the ball to Lumberton along with 15 yds from the 50.  Now I know if he touched the ball before 10 yds it's a penalty rekick or take over on the spot.  But where does the 15 yds come from. And in a play like that are you allowed to contact the receiver.

If the ball did not contact the ground first, then the receiving team has the right to catch the ball without interference. Kick catch interference was called, thus the 15 yard penalty.

Ok have seen the same play look almost the same and be a successful onside kick but maybe there was no contact.

First if ball is touched by team A which is kicking team before it goes ten yards it's not a penalty. Illegal touching is treated the same as downing a punt .At worst team B receiving team will get the ball there. There's kick catch interfere on kickoffs same as punts. They still have protection on onside kicks that if immediately kicked in the ground and take the big hop. But if it dribbles on ground couple of times before it takes the hop all bets are off.

Pretty sure once the ball touches the ground after kick then it is fair game once it hits the ten yard mark.

Could be wrong... but what would be the purpose of onside kick if the receiving team was allowed to try and catch it off the bounce after 10 yards.

We had one against us last year I believe where they kicked it wide and their end guy caught it on the run before it ever touched the ground and it was their ball.  I think it may have been jasper, who tried the same thing last week.

you can fair catch a pooch kick or a pop up onsides kick.....  one bounce 

same rules as a punt as far as interference....
