Why does Nederland have to forfeit?

Nederland submitted an eligibility waiver for QB Kevin Laday, who played in Nederland's 51-9 win over Livingston.  On Friday, the UIL notified Nederland that they had denied the waiver, but the decision to vote for a forfeit was up to the 22-5A district executive committee.  They voted today that Nederland was to forfeit their win against Livingston.

Lol, I wonder how some of the "it's not official yet" Ned fans spin that one. The eligibility waiver wasn't approved, Neumann knew that AND STILL decided to play the kid anyway. When he saw what he was dealing with this year he just got desperate for the W, or is that still considered speculation now that the DEC basically relayed that notion with their 7-0 vote?

The transfer/release was signed by PAM and filed with the UIL.  The UIL saw something and contacted the school.  Neumann immediately took action until the decision came down?  No spin, just facts.  There is absolutely NO way Neumann would put guys like Connor Perkins and Corbin Smith (2 time district champs and seniors) intentionally in jeopardy of something like this.  This goes for all of his senior class.  Your post above is straight GARBAGE lies, but fun for you I know.

curious to see how this will effect the team

Well, the immediate effects are this.  The forfeit drops Nederland into the 6th place spot at 1-3 in district (1/2 game behind Central who is 1-2).  What is of more concern, of the 4 teams that now occupy the top 4 spots, Vidor at 4-0, PAM and PNG at 3-0, and Livingston at 2-1, only PN-G does not hold a head to head tiebreaker over Nederland (as they have yet to play).  As one poster stated in another thread, Nederland's playoffs begin on Friday.

It will be interesting to see if the Bulldogs' play reflects that sense of urgency.

    • Solid week.  Alone in 4th for the playoffs.  If I hadn’t started off down 16-18 picks after 4 weeks I’d be up near the top 🤦🏻‍♂️
    • This is good info. It doesn’t really break out for student athletes though. LP & (I think) DP are open enrollment because of the way the towns intertwine. That’s the way it’s been for many years anyway. I assume it still is that way. The kids have a choice after Jr. High to go to either High School because LPISD has elementary schools in DP. As I recall, DP didn’t want to build out more (Robin Hood issues), and so DPISD & LPISD came to an arrangement because LPISD is one of the highest givers to Robin Hood in the state, and it helped both keep more funds in district. Of course, LPISD is open to all. Not just DP, and LPISD is rated well. So, I assume they have kids from elsewhere also. Not positive though. They used to have a lot because—for decades—DeWalt was the only dedicated public school in the GHA that specifically catered to special needs kids. Families from all over enrolled. But, they didn’t participate in extracurricular activities like sports. So, LP’s total enrollment made them 6A. But, they were really a 5A school all along for sports program sake. This is all as best as I can recall from when I was more involved in school issues. I’m sure a lot has changed since then. My kids have been out for 20 years.
    • Our playoff rivalry. They hold a 6-5 edge in the series. I think Newton continues the win streak in a hard fought contest. What say y’all?
    • Has Elmo gotten his aggy premature extension yet?  Pay him already because you guys were exactly right - he really does “get you.” 😂🤣
