Players quitting High School Athletics

Does anyone know what's going on with the Lumberton boys athletics.  There has been a rash of athletes leaving Athletics.  For example an 8th grade starting A team two sport player has quit.  Up to three starting Freshman Football players have left the athletic program.  Two varsity starting athletes of different sports have quit their teams.  There are other that are "rumored" but because they are rumored I will not mention grade and sport.  Is this common in other school?

It was common when I was in school. Freshmen year EVERYBODY played football, then after the season people quit to focus on baseball/basketball.. Not sure about anywhere else, but nothing new for Lumberton.

It means they can't hack it. If they are quitters let them quit. Kids these days expect people to feel sorry for them. This post is a joke. I can tell you what is common at most "good" schools....Athletic Directors don't let kids back in the program who have quit before.

This isn't pee wee ball and coaches lose jobs based on the effort or lack of their athletes give.

What is the offense going to be in the future?  I've been told they are leaning to Slot/wing T and a few parents are upset.  Some possibly wanting to transfer.

Rumors I've heard is Lumberton will become an extremely amazing program! Only if parents let coaches do their job...

Wouldn't surprise me, but I don't think that's what will happen.

However, I was just telling someone the other day that if we are gonna be a 95% run team then we might as well run the slot t and try to make it tricky.

Let'em go, you can't let kids or their parents run the program!!

Think this is a silly topic.

Players quit all the time at all schools. Nothing new here. Move along.

(me thinks the author of this thread has a quitter in his/her household)

Exactly. Freshmen teams are huge and it dwindles down as years go on. It sometimes has zero to do if the kid can hack it. The kid might come to realize he just doesn't have the desire to play. Really can't fault that at all

It's pretty simple.  The kids that are real football players keep playing football. The kids that play to have something to do realize football isn't for them.  Others notice they are better at other sports and pursue those.  Some parents get upset about playing time and pull their kids.  Some quit growing and it seems everyone else is better, so they make a decision to quit themselves.  Kids quit for many different reasons. Its the same ole same at EVERY school.

You just contradicted yourself in two sentences. So should they finish or get out of the way?

Finish your season. If you don't want to play anymore, get out of the way of the kids who do want to play.

Can't win for losing lately. Need to reevaluate the phrasing of my posts.

    • I too, wish #15 was healthy and playing.  And also another RB (can't recall the #), who went down in the first game of the season. But, some others have stepped up and are hard runners.  I'm really looking forward to watching this game.
    • Still, from what little I saw, it should have been a much closer game.  WOS was missing some fundamentals on defense, and a lack of imaginative play calling on offense.  Just my opinion as an objective observer on Texan Live, which was horrible btw, but that's another story.
    • Either way,one game lead in the series. I rely to much on word of mouth
    • West Orange Stark has been a powerhouse since I csn remember. At some point, your bound to fall off to some degree. Alabama has 3 or 4 loses this season. Who would have thought? Has Orange lost kids to LCM or even Orangefield?
    • Interesting matchup this Friday. Both teams have very good offensive and defensive lines, which will make this game interesting. Having watched Texas High all season, they have a wide open offense with very good skill players. If you look at their stats they run the ball 57% of the time and pass 43% of the time. Personally, that is a bit deceiving, as most of their games have seen reserves running the ball in the 4th quarter. I would estimate the primary offense is 50/50. Through 12 games they have run for 3,224 yds (48tds) and passed for 2,894 yds (32 yds). Potter, the Tiger QB, has been very efficient with a 69% completion rate and 1 interception (which came from a tipped pass). The passing is distributed primarily to 4 receivers…. Ball (865), Wrightner (811), Montgomery (532), & Pilgreen (392). The rushing comes from 3 running backs … Johnson (1,432), Ball (768) & Moore (716).  The Tiger defense is solid and very quick.    Hope #15 is healthy enough to play. He is a test for any defense. I was concerned about the Nederland RB, but felt Texas High did a good job containing him. I wish this game was in the afternoon, as Nachitoches is having their Festival of Lights and their will not be any rooms in the inns and restaurants will be full so plan accordingly. PNG are state champions until someone knocks them off, so I extend the Indians the respect they deserve. Pulling for the Tigers.
