baddog Posted December 9, 2016 Report Posted December 9, 2016 One of the advantages of being old is to be able to say I saw John Glenn launched into space on TV. Those Gemini launches were very slow compared to a shuttle launch. Glenn was one of the good guys. R.I.P. Quote
tvc184 Posted December 9, 2016 Report Posted December 9, 2016 Yep, saw his flight live and in black and white. He flew almost 200 combat missions in two wars and shot down enemy aircraft in both. Another heroic member of the greatest generation. Quote
RETIREDFAN1 Posted December 9, 2016 Report Posted December 9, 2016 John Glenn's undying support for abortion as a Senator, including partial birth abortion, has caused the death of many millions of innocent babies.......he won't get a kind word from me........ Quote

Wasn't aware of his stance on abortion. Makes a huge difference in how I feel. May even need to retract my "good guy" statement. RETIREDFAN1 1 Quote
LumRaiderFan Posted December 9, 2016 Author Report Posted December 9, 2016 He had an amazing career in the military and NASA, but as WH1 points out, he evolved into a hardcore liberal. Quote
Kountzer Posted December 10, 2016 Report Posted December 10, 2016 Even if abortions were totally outlawed the number of abortions would remain the same. Only difference is they would be performed in some nasty back alley instead of a sterile, controlled environment. Quote
RETIREDFAN1 Posted December 10, 2016 Report Posted December 10, 2016 Got any data to back that up??? Quote
tvc184 Posted December 10, 2016 Report Posted December 10, 2016 I admire him as a war hero and sitting on top of a roman candle to orbit the earth in a rocket that I believe exploded a few times in tests. He served his country with nerves of steel. I don't agree with his abortion stance if that is what it was but one has nothing to do with the other. Heck, he was a Democrat and therefore likely liberal through and through. There are plenty of issues that I likely disagree with his stance. So what? I often see people say God Bless our troops or they respect them for serving. I guess that does not apply to ones that vote Democrat, support liberal politics, run for Democratic office.............. Maybe when I lower my flag on Memorial Day to half staff, I should put a cardboard D on the ground under the flag so that it shows I don't respect that men and women that died in service for our country because we differ politically.
