Go-rilla
Lake Travis, Highland Park, Woodlands, Aledo, Carthage, Sweetwater, Refugio, Desoto, Steele, Calallen, Wylie. All have state of the art facilities. Desoto is the only one that probably has more than 3 division 1 players. So are we still saying money does not effect wins? PlayActionPass
Money will always be a factor in success. In many communities, success leads to financial support from the school district. In other cases, the money and facilities are the precursor to success. Either way, quality of facilities and money dedicated to athletics are very helpful to sustained success. However, places like WOS still win on a consistent basis with sub par facilities and very little financial support.
Hupernikomen
Division 1 players don't grow on trees. Refugio, Wylie, Aledo, Carthage, Sweetwater are small compared to the rest of those teams. Any year Refugio has 2 Div. 1 players is a big deal. As far Lake Travis, Highland Park, Woodlands and Desoto those taxpayers wanted those facilities and paid for them. I wouldn't want their property tax bill for sure. Of course money affects wins. They wouldn't have a lot of those players if not for the money. The area and therefore the facilities in that area attract families... People still do have a choice of where to live. Money alone is not the answer to building a winning program, but it sure doesn't hurt. Plenty of towns get it done with far less than those you listed. Go-rilla
I just hope people realize when they vote no on bonds or whine about coaches salaries that those things matter. Everywhere aint WOS!!! If you want to win you may need to pay 1 more dollar on property taxes. Hup your a Jasper Guy aren't you. Didn't they just upgrade everything? PlayActionPass
It is sad that some communities don't want to invest in athletic facilities. The people that vote against bond issues don't care about the future, they only care about then now. The better the facilities, the more participation, the better citizens that are produced. purpleeagle
Wow, if we (Newton) had money no telling how good we would be. We are one of the poorest counties(school districts) in Texas. We are trying to upgrade to flush toilet restrooms. Our old blocking dummies are rusting out, need some new 55 gal. drums. With the unemployment rate extremely high in our county, there is little chance of passing a bond. Maybe some rich person will come alone and donate about a million for new turf. Then maybe we can make it back to state again. MrUmp1, RETIREDFAN1, camsdad and 1 other

They will most often be very good and they will always be competitive because of the lack of movement in the town and the tradition of success. They don't need the facilities to be good because they don't need to attract players, they already have those.

You aren't looking at the other side of the coin. Those areas also have a lot of high-paying jobs that bring in the money and people who bring the athletes. People aren't going to move to a high tax school district just for football with no job to pay for it.
longball24
You don't have to have facilities like Carthage or the woodlands but you do need nice upgrades jasper PNG silsbee Sabine pass evadale woodville all are new or fairly new facilities and do benefit from kids transferring from neighboring schools And kids going to live with grandparents for this reason.schools like Newton and WOS have been immune but jasper could change newtons winning tradition kids will look around and want to leave for greener pastures LCM could do the same to WOS. Along with incredible facilities, the majority of the aforementioned schools have players that are extremely coachable, well coached, disciplined, and have very high IQ's; those same players are all fortunate enough to get to eat 3 square meals a day, with the majority of them coming from families where the income is well over $150,000. Anybody that thinks those things aren't very important is kidding themselves.

oldage football
Coach Witherspoon in Jasper once won several state titles in track. They worked out on a dirt trail he mark off -- set several national and state records during the day - Jasper built a new all weather track and hasn't won a state title since-- takes more than a pretty kitchen to make a good meal j_dog, WOSgrad and OldBuc77
