undiscovered Posted December 14, 2016 Report Posted December 14, 2016 Saw an interesting statistic this morning. Since 1960 Jefferson County has voted for the democratic party all but two times. One of these times happened to be this year. What do you think about this Big Girl? Quote
stevenash Posted December 14, 2016 Report Posted December 14, 2016 My guess is she will not respond. If she does, no doubt it will have something to do with Fake News, Russian Hacking, and the "White Supremacist Platform". I think you will find those on Huffington Post and ThinkProgress.org amongst others. Quote
tvc184 Posted December 14, 2016 Report Posted December 14, 2016 Out of curiosity and not willing to research, was the other time Reagan's reelection? The reason I thought that might be true was that he won by such a huge margin over the entire nation that maybe the then heavy union vote crossed over. As they named them back then, Reagan Democrats. This time was clear just as for the rest of the nation, the Dems had such a lousy candidate. No matter if she won the popular vote by a slight margin, it should not have been close. The GOP nominates a reality star kind of clown, who is a billionaire and should be the hated enemy of the working class. He ran against a former first lady, senator, secretary of state and wife of a popular Democrat president. You would think it had been a 65%-35% win but even the buffoonery of Trump was destined to win over such a horrible candidate. Had the Dems not been afraid to run someone against the "machine", this would not have been close, going the other way and Trump would have been sent back to his tower. Quote
undiscovered Posted December 14, 2016 Author Report Posted December 14, 2016 No, the other time was 1972 for Richard Nixon who, like Reagan, won 49 of the states. The numbers for the Reagan reelection in Jefferson County were 45,124 for Reagan and 54,846 for Walter Mondale. Quote
tvc184 Posted December 14, 2016 Report Posted December 14, 2016 Okay, Nixon's Silent Majority..... And yes, those were huge popular vote and electoral landslides. Nixon won by 16 million popular votes and Reagan won by 17 million. Quote
Hagar Posted December 15, 2016 Report Posted December 15, 2016 So if Nixon & Reagan both won 49 States, help me remember the last time a Democratic candidate won 49 States. Not sure FDR even pulled that off. Quote
