So from that look it was a good call. Awful fast to see in Regular speed but appears to me to be correct. Guys, I must insert myself into this discussion about the ball hitting the backboard. It looks like it did in the video....but it makes no difference whether it did or didn't hit backboard. The only criteria for goaltending is if the ball is on its downward flight ONLY. You guys are citing an NBA rule but NCAA & HS it is not. My 2 cents. TxHoops 1 Quote
Lazeek Posted January 4, 2017 Report Posted January 4, 2017 Isn't the backboard the same as the rim? Once the ball touches it it cannot be interfered with? Quote

Lazeek Posted January 4, 2017 Report Posted January 4, 2017 RUAU is correct very interesting 24. It is not goaltending if, after contacting the backboard, the ball is touched by a defensive player, provided the ball has not reached it’s apex and it is not inside the cylinder. Comment: It is legal for a defender in the normal course of trying to block a shot, to contact the backboard with his hand. This is not basket interference. It is a technical foul only if, in your judgment, the contact with the backboard was intentional in nature with no real attempt to block the shot. 25. Basket Interference occurs when: a player touches the ball or basket (net included) when the ball is ON or within the basket; touches the ball when it is touching the cylinder having the ring as its lower base; touches the ball outside the cylinder while reaching through the basket from below. Goal Tendingoccurs when: a player touches the ball during a try or tap while it is in its downward flight entirely above the basket ring level and has the possibility of entering the basket in flight; or an opponent of the free thrower touches the ball outside the cylinder during a free throw attempt. Comment: Touching the net is only a violation if the ball is in contact with the rim, or is within the basket. It is not a violation if the net is touch while the ball is in the cylinder. Again, the lead official should never have to make this call. TxHoops and Hagar 2 Quote
Who That Posted January 4, 2017 Report Posted January 4, 2017 Who cares the game is over.! Silsbee won".! And all this again about this team and that team heard this all last year about the teams Silsbee better wacth out for" lol ... And all them good old teams where sitting at home watching the state games on tv. And look who we played Levelland another team we where supposed to be worried about that took a 42 point lost to the Tigers. Silsbee last lost was once again to a 6A #1 team just like Wagner. 6A #2 now #1 and rank #14 in the country D.Skyline .! And they will tell you they where scared at the half being down to Silsbee for the first time all year being behind. Now back to the 4A schools Silsbee is the best and Lincoln is the 2nd best yes their are still two teams out there that will make it to San Antonio who are they we will haft to wate and see. But Silsbee and Lincoln will handle them two teams. And play once again for the 4A Texas High school State Championship. Silsbeealum14 and BADSANTA 2 Quote

As in this Silsbee play, Lead official should NEVER rule on goaltending/basket interference from behind the backboard. Great job Lazeek, should I forward you the registration forms for officiating...as illustrated, we take all comers KHSAlum400 1 Quote

ST413 Posted January 4, 2017 Report Posted January 4, 2017 Interesting reading that rule. By that definition it was a bad call but still could have been a foul call. Quote
