I know most of us don't lion hunt. It looks like South Africa is finally doing something about canned hunts.

That's worse than trophy deer hunts in Texas. At least the deer aren't raised in cages and led to the shooting lane.

No joke, I had no idea they had Lion farms. They need to be shut down.

Why would you wanna shoot a lion anyways? it sounds kind of pointless to me

The same reason that you shoot any animal, for the hunt. The sport of trying to track an animal and be in position to take it in one shot.

I have seen videos of people killing wild lions with a bow and arrow about 30 yards away. Pretty gutsy stuff. The thrill of the hunt.

Having a tame lion led out on a leash and then unharnessed so you can shoot him seems about like shooting your cat in your front yard. There is not a lot of macho status in that. In the case of the tame lions in South Africa, apparently a lot of millionaires don't want to spend the time, energy, skill and take the risk of actually being in the bush to take a game animal. They could just buy a stuffed head but then they could not brag to their friends that they bagged a big one "in the wild". They can then produce the trophy picture of themselves standing by their big kill.  >:(

THey aren't hunters, they are killers. Hunters hunt way more than they kill. Hunters love hunting not killing. Killing is a small part of being an outdoorsman and it definitely doesn't define who we are. Amen :)
