jesusfreak Posted February 10, 2017 Report Posted February 10, 2017 Per kogt website: UIL District 22-4A Executive Committee met Friday, February 10, 2017 to consider moving the venue for tonight’s boys’ basketball game between Silsbee HS and West Orange-Stark HS. A safety plan has been developed and will be implemented. Therefore, the committee voted unanimously to keep the game at West Orange-Stark as originally scheduled. Silsbee ISD and West Orange-Stark CISD were required abstentions for the single action item discussed. It is the committee’s hope that true sportsmanship will be displayed according the guidance set forth by UIL-Austin as stated below: Regardless of the outcome of tonight’s game, all of the players have proven their willingness to work and sacrifice in order to achieve athletic excellence. We ask that as a spectator, you consider the time and effort each of these teams, coaches, and athletes have put forth. Cheer these young athletes, applaud them, but do not, through any of your actions, cause them to doubt the value of athletics. By your conduct, allow these young people to feel pride in their communities and school. While your sportsmanlike actions may play only a small part in the outcome of this game, it will play a greater role in continuing to encourage competitive athletics. We also ask that you show your appreciation for the students who will be taking part indirectly in tonight’s game–the cheerleaders, the bands, the pep squad, and the students who have supported their teams at home and away. These young people play an integral part in their team’s success. The officials for this game have been mutually agreed upon by school officials for both schools. Their role is not unlike those of players, coaches, teachers, and school administrators. Without them this game would not be possible. Their knowledge and application of the rules are a result of annual testing, years of study, and continual participation in clinics that further refine their understanding of the game. We ask you, as students, parents, and citizens, to demonstrate the kind of respect for these officials you would extend to any dedicated person in a position of responsibility. This means that you as a fan: 1) Should not criticize the players on either team, 2) Should not boo the officials, 3) Should not have alcoholic beverages on public school grounds since it is a violation of state law, 4) Should be courteous to the visiting fans, 5) Should cheer for your team, and 6) Should show respect for injured players on both teams.
oldage football Posted February 10, 2017 Report Posted February 10, 2017 when Ozen was involved in a couple brawls a few years ago the UIL put the school and the coach on probation didn't they???? Is this being discussed over the Silsbee incident? Bottom line the coach and school are held responsible

BADSANTA Posted February 10, 2017 Author Report Posted February 10, 2017 Probation? Man get TFOHWTBS. Silsbee hasn't been in any type of fights over the last 20 years. People have provoked them. This team has more than enough talent to win state.

BADSANTA Posted February 10, 2017 Author Report Posted February 10, 2017 I don't think Silsbee will have anyone else suspended besides what has taken place. The good thing is Silsbee has 2 pgs who can really play. Bush is a fantastic player who I think will step up now. Newton is a key defender as well as Tyler. #Silsbeetostate oldage football and Pepper Brooks 2

Seriously? That's like breaking up over text message! If posting the video on Facebook is seen as unacceptable to y'all, then posting a apology on twitter should be as well. I'm not shifting blame. And no one has posted the video of the LCM kid sucker punching the Silsbee kid. In fact, that kid's dad has stated he doesn't want it posted. Some people have class, some don't. If you don't believe me, go read the thread of the clown who posted it on Facebook and the comments he's made there.

But I've also seen some pleasant comments coming from silsbee people too. On several different posts that people have shared. Seems like adults on both sides are acting out.

For a guy who is as learned as you are and was also not at or involved in this incident, you have a LOT to say. Have you seen the full video of the altercation?
BADSANTA Posted February 10, 2017 Author Report Posted February 10, 2017 As adults you have to have more in life than being involved in high school sports. Going to the game and cheering is one thing but going and acting a complete ass is another. There is nothing wrong with cheering for your school but when you Sit on the visitors side and talk smack like your 15 it's a shame. I go to many Silsbee games and its always the same 3 or 4 people doing the bull $#%=÷. Sit down cheer for your school and leave others alone. It is a kids game. Let the kids be kids. You paid $3 to come in and cheer. Some people I see that all they have is high school sports. They live and die with the high school team and your like 40 gets old. Embarrassing! oldage football and RunninRebels 2

Have you seen the full video of the altercation? I have not. I have personally spoken to a few people who were there, one neutral and the rest LCM folks. They ALL recounted the incident the same way. Due to the consistency of what I've heard, and the fact they are friends of mine (and again, mostly LCM people), i have no reason to doubt their version of the LCM involvement in the incident. I've made no bones about how highly I've regarded Devon and I also personally know the opponent who threw the other cheap shot. I guess I've had a lot to say because I dedicate most of my free time to helping kids. Anyone that knows me well can tell you that. It's tough to remove that "hat."

I'm as disappointed, if not more so, in the way adults have acted and spoken after this mess. And we wonder why some kids don't know how to behave themselves. L-Train11 1

I thought this was a misspoken statement, so I checked the almighty Google. If you google Silsbee fight, you get three almost immediately (first two pages). The three different schools that they have had problems with, only show up once. (unless of course you count the lcm/png mascot fight). I don't know any of the situations, just that there is a common denominator.

indian15/16 Posted February 10, 2017 Report Posted February 10, 2017 I was really late to the party regarding all that's taken place since Tuesday. I saw the video and it's very disturbing to say the least. Young Mr. McCain will be charged with a task greater than refining his basketball skills, in that he will have to rebuild his character and integrity from the ground up. If he's unsuccessful in that pursuit, basketball won't matter. This is the land of second, and even sometimes third, opportunities so he will have his chance. I guess what I find most surprising in all this is the free pass seemingly issued to Sigler at this point. I have seen some subtle instances that make me question him as a leader and what his true message may be to these young men outside of X's and O's. I truly believe when it's young people who have a clear leader, these types of behavior and attitude tend to start at the top and trickle down. The good people of Silsbee might want to keep Coach Sigler under the microscope moving forward. IMO there are far better than him that would jump at the opportunity to lead these young men. Notice I didn't say coach, I said lead.

A couple of things to note in that article. First, that the incident happened so long ago that both Jasper and Kirbyville were still in the same district as WO-S, Second, the team which the Mustangs had the altercation with is one that is quite familiar in this thread. wo-s#1 1
