you're right about Nederland not having the industry that PNG and Port Arthur have, but if you remember when PNG passed their bond election it was before the bottom dropped out of the economy, Ned put theirs on the table during a bad recession and had no chance of passing, just bad timing I guess. But one of the good things about the upgrade to Indian stadium is we win there more than the Indians do..so thanks for the nice place to win in.

No need to be nice they just plain do not pass them in Nederland. PNG is putting turf on both the baseball and softball fields as we speak to be ready for the upcoming season.....

I don't mean to stoke any fires, but am I the only one who finds it strange that as wide a breaking story as this was on Monday that no one has managed to get a quote from Coach Neumann confirming that "Yeah, I am hanging it up."

I mean I don't dispute the media reports that he will be retiring at the end of the month.  It is just that a part of me isn't sure that this is happening until I see or hear his words.

I think it is very strange that we have not heard from the man himself. I'm sure he doesn't want to answer the questions, especially if it is family health related, but I still would have expected a media release from him by now.

Hard to believe the Superintendent would put out a message on the NISD website like they did if this isn't confirmed.

I don't think the Superintendent would have posted this message without Retirement paperwork in hand. The detailed reasons were too specific and the definitive nature of the Retirement was obvious. I'm just wondering why we have heard from LN.

Interesting.  Why hasn't he been interviewed?

I have not been very active on here recently, but as a Bulldog supporter, I do have quite a bit of interest in this...Coach Neumann was absolutely phenomenal for Nederland football and athletics, in general...more importantly, he was successful at building solid young men who learned how to put "team" first and be responsible individuals...job well done, Coach, you will be sorely missed...you often hear the phrase "leave it better than you found it"; Coach Neumann can check that box off in a big way!!

For the reasons mentioned above, I throw my support in the corner of Monte Barrow...he has been with Neumann for the entirety of this run and has been an invaluable contributor to this legacy...he understands the game extremely well and more importantly, he cares about the kids and knows what it takes to develop them, both as players and equally important, as people.

He's paid his dues and I am convinced is more than ready for this opportunity...plus, Nederland has one hell of a staff overall, and promoting Monte is the best way to ensure that this stays in tact as well...lot's of good coaches on that sideline and I for one, want them all to stay!

I always thought our OC would be the next man up when Neumann hung it up, and there's no one I could think of that could do a better job, or is more deserving. He would be my pick. It just seems to me things have changed. First...School Board  votes for a new Sup from out of the area, meanwhile passing on 2 homegrown asst.sups.....one of these passed over twice for the job. Recently some hires have been made from out of the district that are normally filled from inside. And now Neumann steps aside, he was a Kingpin with mucho stroke in the dist. For what its worth and with the way things are changing, it would suprise me if they hired from within. With that said, Im all in and will support the next man up.

Wasn't Nuemann hired from outside the district?

Why does he owe the press anything ?  He has informed the people who need to know. Beyond that it really is no one else's business. You don't see press releases when a classroom teacher retires. I know the press feels they need to be in on every little story, but the over saturation of news and reporting on everything that happens to celebrities or public people is getting ridiculous.

For those wondering why we haven't heard from Larry, so far that's been his choice. I've called and emailed him. I'm sure every other media outlet has as well. The morning 6 put it out there (I was aware it was going to happen but respected the coach who had not told the players yet) I left him a message. I thought it was only fair that before it was confirmed through the district that I gave him a chance to tell me it was OK to run with it. Nothing but the most utmost respect for LN.

True leaders and real men dont get their value from attention or having people fawn over you.  Neumann proved to be a focused leader, that is why his teams won.  He was able to get them to focus intently, as a group, on a common goal, and work like heck to make it happen.  Right now, he obviously has other things he needs to focus on.  We just need to give the man some space, but it has been one helluva ride.

Oh, I harbor no illusion that you didn't attempt to get something from him, as did Micheal and Gabe.  And I acknowledge my concern might be unwarranted.

I just thought it a little strange that we are hearing from one side, the Nederland ISD, and haven't heard or read a peep out of the person retiring.  I'm not looking for some 60 Minutes like expose on the hows and whys of his retirement.  If Larry Neumann never wishes to reveal those that is fine with me.  But I don't think it unreasonable to think that by now, he would have at the very least confirmed the district's statement.

The scenarios I see for the hiring of a New AD/Hd Football or AD and Head Football goes possibly like this....In no particular order

*School Board decides no required Masters Degree, Coach Barrow becomes New AD/Head Football Coach

*School Board decides Masters Degree required, Coach English or Spell become AD and Coach Barrow named Hd. Football Coach

*School Board decides Masters Degree required, Full Blown open search for a new AD/Hd Football Coach

The last scenario is just as much at play IMO as the first two, reasons being the New Superintendent was hired from the outside when Nederland had (2) In-house long time Assistant Superintendents "In Waiting"...

Any other thoughts or scenarios?
