First, we don't know who all applied.  OR -- who may have expressed an interest but didn't officially apply.  But, my point was did we explore all possibilities?  Did we try and make contacts around the state?  I said originally:  Don't rush.  Go out and find the best available.  At this point, I'm not sure this was done.  I'm still concerned about what was stated about the Superintendent not caring about sports.  If this is the case, then, no, an exhausted search was not done.

Objection. Responsiveness,  This ain't Playstation or Xbox1.  You don't get to choose the candidates.  Nederland ISD listed who turned in applications.  So, again, out of those who decided to apply, who is better than Barrow?

Wow, I cant believe yall are still talking about this.  Ned doesn't have the facilities to lure in a Big Splash guy like youre talking about.  And if they did get that "big name" from across the state it would only be a stepping stone to go somewhere else.  Ned did the right thing.  They hired a man that has proven to be devoted to the program and the community, and will be a great head coach.

If I'm not mistaken, there were only five who applied?  I doubt we got the whole list.  But, from what I saw, wasn't totally impressed with any of them.  But, pressed for an answer, personally, I would have leaned toward the DC from Katy.

I remember when the Nederland message board was still going strong and a post about Barrow was leaving to be a operator at a local plant but then got a raise and decided to stay as OC so who knows if this might be a stepping stone for him?

Come on guys stop crying & except the fact that your negative opinions about Coach Barrow were nothing but B.S. & the best man got the job. Anyone but Barrow would have made you & ole navydawg happy and it has nothing to do with his coaching abilities or resume. Barrow could win state & you guys would still say these Bobby August type coaches are better. You can do all the what if this & that you want, but the fact is Coach Barrow was the best, most qualified man for the job,if not the anti "good ole boy" system crowd, school board & super would have ran him out of town in a heart beat. Still Not sure why the strong anti barrow feelings & dislike of the man & his abilities that have led to many successful men & women while they played for him & in the real world after high school sports not just football, see thats the key you guys dont get Barrow is 100% all for any Nederland sport & activity. Its got to be a personal problem with you guys, you, a son or a family member that maybe things didnt go the way you wanted so you blame the coaches for the rest of your lives??? Katy is a nice area with nice homes you guys can move to & watch the great cinco ranch dc do his thing every practice & friday nite. Sorry fellas but the BULLDOG WAY & ALL FOR ONE ONE FOR ALL will be carried on a few more years...........

Please DM me, i would love to know the real people instead of screen names & here either you guys logical reasonings about Nederland,Nederland athletics & football

1st bold:  Your opinion is good as anybody's.

2nd bold:  Wrong!  I/we actually hope he goes 10-0 and district champs.

3rd bold:  Again -- WRONG!  Where the home cookers are confused -- it's nothing personal.

Reagan, is the DC from Katy a relative of yours or something? If I read the article correctly he doesn't have head coaching experience either. So, why is he better qualified then Monte? He was a Dc whereas Monte is an OC. Monte's been successful and so has the DC from Katy. Monte knows the in's and outs and the kids of the Nederland Program the other guy has no clue. In all Monte was the best man for the job. In my opinion, he was the master mind behind the offense. Like the old saying go's, a good head coach surrounds himself with great assistants so he doesn't have to do as much. I think Neuman let Monte have total control of the offense and in my opinion it ran pretty well. So whatever your problem is with Monte you have not given any reasons why you think the DC from Katy would have been the better pick. All you said is they should have picked the best man for the job. I say, Explain why the DC from Katy would have been the better hire........Oh yea, I'm not from Nederland and don't have a dog in the fight.

You know, your claim that this is not a personal beef would hold a little more credibility if you didn't label those that support Coach Barrow "home cookers."  Such derogatory language pretty much undercuts that claim.

People know what "Home Cooking" is and it's NOT derogatory.  So don't even try to make it such.

Okay, so this is obviously Smitty, too easy a read.  Smitty, you sure read a lot into what isn't said and what isnt there.  You look to make your own reality and feed your own narrative.  Outanup gave an honest evaluation and said nothing against our kids, but you hear ONLY what feeds your opinion.  Got a question for you... how long had it been since Nederland had 1, beaten PNG, and 2, made the playoffs before Derouen got there?  Derouen couldn't get Nederland over the hump, but he started it in the right direction before Bobby derailed it and set the stage for the best hire Nederland will have ever made.

1st:  Neauman being the best hire Ned ever made.  Well, I'm sure Emmit McKensie and Bum Philips would have something to say about that.  But, Neauman did do a good job.

2nd:  Derouen had Ned going in the right direction:  3-6-1, 2-8-0, 4-6-0, 3-6-1, 3-6-0, 4-4-1.   Well, maybe.

3rd:  Comparison to a smitty;  If I remember right, it was that he/she had a problem with one of the coaches.  And it wasn't Neauman or Barrow.

Man -- batting a thousand.   :<)

1. McKenzie took over right after Bum left, so how much of that was left over from Bum is debatable.  He won state the year after Bum left, and only had one other really good season after that and was gone after 4 years.

1957       C           14-0-0         431-  54         Emmett McKenzie
1958       C             5-6-0         177-201         Emmett McKenzie
1959       C           10-1-0         326-  94         Emmett McKenzie
1960                      7-1-2         215-  78         Emmett McKenzie

2. -Derouen ?  umm No.  And this is speaking from the experience of playing for him.

3. - no comment.

McKenzie was at Nederland for 3 years Elwood Kettler was the coach in 1960. He was only at Nederland for the 1960 season.

3 out 3 (Bulldogfan says Kettler was there in 1960) out-right District Championships and 1 State Title.  Yes, you have to tip your hat to Mr. Mckenzie.  Impressive in anybody's book!

Just my opinion. The  talent level might be taking a dip in Nederland the next few years. With that said, wins against losses don't always equal how good a coach or program you have. I just hope people can see that and agree when Nederland goes through a few lean years coming up. Again, my opinion nothing more. Monte is the right man for the job!!

Be careful, you cant blame the kids.  We have Dodge and Duhon just there waiting to be coached up remember?

I agree with James (and no ones blaming the kids).  For the past 23 years our coaches have given the kids the training and inspiration to succeed...Neumann created a culture for winning, the kids bought into it and still do, Monte and all his staff believe it too.  As James said we may go through some lean years, depending on the talent level only makes sense. But through the last 23 years sometimes I thought we might slip down some, that's when I got surprised by our great Bulldog teams and had great years....Right now I can't wait for the new season (era) I'm buying into it as all Bulldog fans should.

Not at all Nederland youth programs are winning championships against other SETX programs just a lot of the talent moves out due to lack of schools falling apart right infront of the citizens eyes and majority of the people do not want to invest in the future.
